PARA EDUCATOR - TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT Purpose Statement The job of Para Educator - Transportation is done for the purpose/s of monitoring elementary students while they are being transported to and from school; and providing assistance with students' health care needs.

Hours per Week: 1.5 Functions * Administers basic first aid and/or specialized treatment as may be required for the purpose of maintaining health and well-being of students.

* Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

* Assists elementary students for the purpose of providing for special needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.

* Escorts elementary students to/from classrooms as directed for the purpose of ensuring their safe arrival.

* Evacuates students from the bus in an emergency situation for the purpose of moving them to a safe distance from the scene of an accident.

* Instructs elementary students for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations and/ ensuring their safety and/or resolving behavior issues * Monitors unruly, disruptive or seizuring students (e.g.

spitting, hitting, abusive language, kicking, etc.) for the purpose of preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students.

* Reports observations and incidents (e.g.

discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.

* Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g.

wheelchairs, seat belts, child seats, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
