JOB SUMMARY The Camp and Scout Program Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing Conservatory Summer Camp programs for ages 3-8.
Under the supervision of the Youth Program Senior Manager, this includes off-season planning, registration, supply ordering and budgeting for camps, as well as hiring and supervision of camp staff.
During the Summer Camp season, the Camp and Scout Program Educator is responsible for daily camp operations.
Program topics focus on gardening, nature, art, plants, interactions between living organisms, environmental awareness, and more.
This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of Girl Scouts (majority) and other Scout programming that is offered at the Conservatory during the school year.
The Camp and Scout Program Educator may also assist with other educational programs, as assigned.
Additional Information: This is a full-time non-exempt position.
This position is eligible for the Conservatory's benefit package offered to full-time employees, which includes medical, dental and vision insurance, company paid Life/AD&D/Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement Program (OPERS), optional 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan, generous Paid Time Off (PTO), and complimentary membership to the Conservatory.
Compensation: $20 per hour, paid biweekly.
RESPONSIBILITIES * Develops, implements, and delivers creative and fun mission-based camp activities.
* Develops, implements and delivers Scout programs that fulfill badge requirements.
* Oversees and maintains camp and scout registration systems.
* Hires, trains, and supervises camp counselor staff.
* Serves as a role model and maintains the health, safety, and welfare of camp counselors and children.
* Orders, organizes and maintains all camp and scout equipment, supplies, and program areas.
* Works cooperatively with other education staff and volunteers, including supervisors and Volunteer Manager to coordinate staff and volunteers to assist with program delivery.
* Communicates effectively with camper parents/guardians.
* Communicates effectively with troop leaders and scouting stakeholders.
* Documents all accidents, injuries, incidents, complaints, and problems that occur during programming.
* Demonstrates a focus on serving the camps, scout groups and general guests of the Conservatory, maintaining the highest standards of customer service.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED * High School Diploma/GED Equivalent is required.
An Associate or Undergraduate degree in education, natural science, horticulture, biology, art, food science is desired; or 4+ years experience with informal education in a group setting.
* 1-2 years experience working with school-aged children is required; experience working with preschool-aged children is a bonus.
* Proficient in the techniques of informal learning and a keen interest in sharing knowledge is a must.
* Valid drivers license and ability to provide own transportation.

* A professional demeanor with highly developed interpersonal skills.
* Ability to function as part of a team and work in a fast paced environment.
* Ability to maintain accurate records, databases, and documents, and to meet deadlines.
* Ability to do programmatic work and research offsite (computer, web access). * Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). * Ability to walk up to 5 miles/day, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
* Current child First Aid/CPR training is a plus, but will be provided on the job.
