The primary purpose of this job is to manage quality assurance activities for Red Star Yeast (CR RSYC) and the Lesaffre Blending facility (LBF). This position reports to the Quality Manager.

This position may also receive instructions or support from other departments as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.

* Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel * Maintain the Food Safety program (including HACCP and GMP programs) and lead food safety efforts.

* Ensures plants adherence to requirements for all food safety, Kosher, Halal, GMO Free & Organic certifications * Has daily contact with production staff and management (Plant Manager, technical manager, Process Superintendent, CY/NUT Superintendent, Maintenance Manager, Safety/General services manager, Human Resource/Office Administrator) * Maintains frequent communication with processing and maintenance supervisors and personnel to discuss and verify QA compliance * Coordinates with the EH&S Manager to ensure all certification requirements are audited against on an annual basis * Discuss new QA requirements with production, shipping/receiving and maintenance departments * Lead Customer and regulatory audits * Manage customer complaint program * Serve as a member of the Plants HACCP & HARPC (PCQI) Team * Quality reporting and follow-up * Assist with experimental design of process studies, new methods, new products in regard to food safety or product quality.

* Manage plant(s) Environmental Monitoring Programs * Manage plant(s) Pest Control and Janitorial Programs * Motivate staff to support the goals of the business * Perform new employee, contract and continuing employee training on food safety and quality topics.

* Maintain high level of industry knowledge related to new certifications, requirements and revisions to existing requirements * Assist with daily review and verification of lab results * Assist with the analysis and interpretation of results for production departments Supervisory Responsibilities Manages Food Safety Program at the CR RSYC and LBF.

Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Participates in leading the quality internship program.

Knowledge of general laboratory practices required.

Previous baking experience helpful.

Requires flexibility with time and scheduling, must be versatile.

Intermediate MS Windows, word processing and spreadsheet experience required.

Experience with Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS) and/or SAP preferred.

Problem solving skills required-must be able to determine and resolve problems in a timely manner.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or related field required and at least 5 years of QA experience preferred in equivalent position within food processing industry.

Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Ability to be CPR/First Aid certified required.

PCQI certification required.

Facial Hair Policy Employees working in this position will be required to follow Red Star Yeast's facial hair policy.

This is due to requirement of this position to wear respiratory protection.
