Position Title: Associate Director of Institutional Research Department: 2030 Institutional Research Responsibilities: The Associate Director will provide technical leadership in the Office of Institutional Research by overseeing the design, management, and analysis of institutional data.
This position will combine expertise in institutional research, data engineering, and analytics to support academic and operational strategies.
This role involves managing data infrastructure, designing data models, and collaborating with campus stakeholders to deliver actionable insights that support data-informed decision-making.
Responsibilities include: Data Management: * Develop and maintain data models to consolidate data from various sources, including the Operational Data Store and external datasets, to be used in institutional reporting, metrics, and special studies.
* Build systems and processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy.
Technical Leadership: * Lead the technical aspects of institutional research projects, ensuring that solutions meet project requirements.
* Provide direction in the design and implementation of analytical systems and processes.
* Oversee adherence to best practices in reporting standards, coding, and data management through reviews and quality assurance processes.
* Provide guidance and support on data-related tools and techniques to optimize performance and usability.
* Serve as acting Director in the absence of the Director, proving leadership and continuity for the Office of Institutional Research's operations and strategic initiatives.
Data Analysis and Reporting: * Collaborate in the creation of visualizations and dashboards to present institutional data findings, supporting data-informed decision-making across campus departments.
* Design scalable and efficient systems for data consolidation and analysis that support institutional research objectives, including external reporting, data requests, and research studies.
Collaboration: * Engage with data owners, requestors, and users to define reporting needs and analyze business processes to improve efficiencies.
Research and Innovation: * Utilize data analysis and visualization tools (such as SQL, Python, Tableau, Cognos, etc.) to perform analyses and present data findings.
* Explore emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance data accessibility and expand the use of institutional data.
Qualifications: Required Qualifications: * Master's degree preferably in business administration, computer science, or related field.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Technical Skills: * Proficiency in data management and engineering practices, including data integration and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
* Advanced skills in programming languages, such as SQL and Python, for data analysis, modeling, and reporting.
Data Visualization and Reporting: * Expertise in creating interactive dashboards and data visualizations using tools like Tableau, Power BI, etc.
* Strong analytical thinking with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
* Knowledge of best practices for presenting data in an accessible and actionable way.
Institutional Research Trends and Practice: * Familiarity with higher education data systems and key performance indicators.
* Knowledge of reporting standards and compliance requirements related to institutional research.
Communication Skills: * Excellent written and verbal communication skills to translate data into clear reports, presentations, and recommendations.
