General Role and Responsibilities: The primary function of the Elementary Special Needs Coordinator is to provide curricular support for elementary case managers, staff, parents and administrators in the delivery of education services to the elementary student populations.
The coordinator is responsible for special leadership and direction for elementary level programs grade levels K-6, including the standardized assessment process, co-teaching model, remediation programs, curriculum development data utilization, and delineated district wide planning, implementation, evaluation and professional development responsibilities.
General skills and qualifications: * Ability to communicate with teachers, parents, district personnel and community constituents * Competence to effectively implement duties, directives and special projects * High level organizational skills * Superior oral and written communication skills * Computer literacy including knowledge of and ability to use interactive technologies * Demonstrate conflict resolutions skills with both staff and parents * Maintenance and improvement of professional knowledge and expertise through staff development experiences * Setting personal and professional objectives and achieving them to the extent possible * Ability to execute assigned duties in multiple school sites with various administrators and staff Specific responsibilities in this position: * Reports to the director of special education and is responsible for: * Development and improvement of curriculum content and articulation for all secondary students * Development of curriculum and adaptations based upon Essential Skills proficiencies and performance data * Development and management of the district and state standardized assessment processes.
* Implementation and monitoring of the pre-transition and transition processes * Gathering, analysis, interpretation and reporting of standardized assessment data * Ensuring appropriate special needs representation and in-put on all school leadership teams * Monitoring the referral, evaluation and case conference processes and outcomes * Direction and coordination of case manager activities to ensure integrity of both process and data * Provide training and technical assistance to principals, teacher, support staff and parents * Support the use of technology for staff and students in both procedural and instructional processes * Ensuring the appropriate acquisition of textbooks, supplemental materials and equipment * Facilitating specialized evaluations, in the disability categories of HI, BLV, OI, and OHI District Wide Responsibilities * Lead professional for all disabilities at the elementary level * Development of district policy, regulations, curricular guides and manuals * Assisting with staff development activities for school personnel, parents and community constituents * Collaboration with director, coordinators and case managers on special reports grants and projects * Other duties as assigned by the director of special education Specific Skills and Knowledge for this position: * Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
