Position: Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher Position Type: Student Support Services Location: Multiple Schools Date Available: 07/30/2025 Closing Date: Until Filled Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education, to plan, coordinate, and implement programs and services designed to address the unique needs of children identified as hearing impaired.

The Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher shall observe, consult with, and assist special and regular education staff as they adapt classroom instructional strategies to accommodate students with varying degrees of impairment.

The Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher shall also provide direct instruction and serve as a liaison between the school and various professionals that provide services to hearing impaired children and their families.

Essential Performance Responsibilities: Assist the IEP team with student assessment, individualized instructional plan design, implementation and progress monitoring for each student.

Provide advice on establishing and maintaining a classroom atmosphere and environment which lessens the impact of the student's hearing impairment.

Facilitate the student's mainstreaming process by providing support services to the regular and/or special education classroom teacher.

Administer appropriate educational assessment instruments and interpret data derived from assessments.

Provide small group and individualized instruction when appropriate and within IEP guidelines.

Develop methods, techniques, and educational strategies to facilitate student learning.

Coordinate the delivery of student services of paraprofessionals as appropriate.

Design, implement, monitor, and review appropriate IEP's for students.

Monitor student progress through data collection and observation and provide information/support/training to parents.

Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.

Maintain confidentiality of students and student records.

Provide a positive learning environment that stimulates student learning and maintenance of skills.

Effectively communicate with parents and staff.

Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations and ethical practices when providing all special education services.

This includes, but is not limited to, completing procedural documentation, participating in the evaluation and eligibility process, developing appropriate IEPs based on individual student needs, and implementing services.

Perform other duties as assigned by special education administrator.

Minimum Qualifications: Possess and maintain a valid Georgia certificate in Deaf Education.

Demonstrate competence in communicating effectively with children, parents, staff members, and representatives of other agencies, including being highly skilled in sign language.

Possess specialized skills, experience, and training in the areas of instructional methodologies, interpreting/tutoring skills, and the use of technology designed to compensate for one's hearing impairment.

Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with various community resources associated with the special needs of hearing-impaired youth and their families.

Education: Completion of a Deaf Education approved program at the Bachelor's degree level Experience: Successful prior experience as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher preferred.
