Overview
The Production Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of production operations. This role ensures that manufacturing personnel adhere to safety regulations and that production schedules align with quality and productivity goals. The manager supervises shop personnel, oversees material orders and inventory control, and drives operational efficiency across the manufacturing floor.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the production workflow to meet company demand and delivery timelines
Collaborate with purchasing to manage inventory of raw materials, purchased merchandise, and hardware according to forecast and production needs
Work closely with Production Supervisors to develop and maintain the production schedule; act as the primary point of contact for scheduling issues
Ensure inventory levels of made-to-stock (MTS) and purchased items are aligned with production plans
Utilize ERP systems to optimize materials, labor, and machine usage; collaborate with Accounting to ensure accurate costing and resource tracking
Lead and motivate the production team to meet and exceed production targets
Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies and implement corrective measures
Inspect finished products regularly to ensure adherence to quality standards
Maintain compliance with all safety regulations and internal policies
Oversee preventive maintenance for all equipment and tooling
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing and production management
Strong background in production management, ideally in timber or fence manufacturing
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and Inventory Control systems (preferred)
Proficient with ERP and MRP systems
Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively
Strong communication skills with the ability to delegate and lead teams efficiently
