JOB SUMMARY: The sports/golf turfgrass professional is an essential position that provides support in achieving the safety and sustainability of approximately 75 acres of turfgrass.

This includes all stadiums, natural grass practice fields, grass parking lots that also serve as intramural fields, lawns of various buildings, and the R.W.

Robinson golf practice facility.

This also includes numerous synthetic turfgrass surfaces.

Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES: 60% - Essential - Under the direction of the Associate AD for Athletic Grounds and Fields, this individual functions within the day-to-day operations of the Clemson athletics grounds crew in activities associated with athletic/golf turfgrass care and maintenance.

These activities include but are not limited to the following: mowing, preparation of game and practice surfaces to comply with NCAA regulations and individual head coach preferences, string trimming, edging, turfgrass blowing/vacuuming, general clean-up and liter removal, irrigation/drainage repairs and installation, repair/replacement of turfgrass including sodding, topdressing, vertical mowing, aerification and seeding.

10% - Essential - Working with the Director of Landscape Maintenance and other staff, this individual will assist with pruning of plant material, weed control in flower beds, and mulching of plant beds throughout the athletic district.

10% - Essential - This position also requires the understanding of disease and other pest recognition and control strategies.

Must understand the intricate details of golf course maintenance as it pertains to green speed, and turfgrass playability for for tees, fairways, and roughs.

Sand bunker maintenance to include raking, edging, weeding, and sand replacement.

20% - Essential - This position works to meet the deadlines for field preparation related to NCAA sporting events at the following venues: Frank Howard Field at Memorial Stadium, Historic Riggs Field, Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Reeves football practice fields, men's and women's soccer practice fields, track and field, and the McWhorter softball stadium.

The following task will be performed as dictated by schedules and coaches request: paint/line fields and logos for competition, infield preparation, game mound/bullpen mound repair and maintenance, mowing, and associated pre and post competition preparation and clean-up, fertility, and pest control.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education - Associate's Degree Work Experience - 2+ years Licenses & Certifications - SC Certified Pesticide License will be required within 6 months of employment PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Education - Bachelor's Degree - Turfgrass Science or Horticulture Work Experience 3+ years Licenses & Certifications - SC Certified Pesticide License RESPONSIBILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE Firm Job Knowledge - Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Acts as Lead - Acts as a Lead by guiding the work of others who perform essentially the same work.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

stoop, kneel, crawl) Communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself Recognize or inspect visually Move, transport, raise or lower Extends hands or arms in any direction Perceive, observe, clarity of vision WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to heat or cold Radiant energy hazards Wet or humid Noise Mechanical Hazards Chemical hazards WORK SCHEDULE: Standard Hours: 40 COMPENSATION INFORMATION Band: 05 ($ 39,764.00 - $ 42,000.00) Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL Normal Operations Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
