Transportation Safety Trainer JobID: 2838 Position Type: Clerical Date Posted: 9/24/2025 Location: Herb Rehmann Auxiliary Complex - Transportation Date Available: 2025-2026 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Additional Information: Show/Hide Job Title: Transportation Safety Trainer Job Type: Paraprofessional Dept./School: Transportation Department Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Pay Grade: C6 ($23.84 - $34.32) Grade(s) / Level: N/A Days/Dates: 226 GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The transportation safety trainer coordinates all the bus driver training including initial CDL written and behind the wheel training, Entry Level Driver Training, as well as on-going development throughout the year.

This position is also responsible for assisting and maintaining the driver-safety program, maintaining records and reports on the training status of all drivers.

This is a key position in our effort to provide quality transportation to the students and staff of SCUCISD.

QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or equivalent.

* Three years of experience as a school bus driver (preferred) * Possess a Texas Commercial Driver's License with an "S" and "P" endorsement * Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing, a Driver's License check and a criminal background check * Basic computer skills (word processing, windows and various software programs) * Must complete TEEX Training Academy certification program for school bus driver instructors within 90 days of employment or first available regional class.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1.

Plan for and train district employees seeking a Commercial Driver's License in all aspects of safe driving, including maintenance pre-checks, vehicle operations of all types of vehicles, and safety requirements specific to bus drivers with state mandated requirements.

2.

Evaluate driving skills and track driver proficiency.

3.

Counsel and assist new drivers.

4.

Provide technical information and observations regarding the performance of bus drivers.

5.

Plan, schedule, implement and monitor student safety and pupil transportation vehicle evacuation procedures and drills.

6.

Plan, organize and implement policies and procedures in maintaining appropriate student behavior.

7.

Maintain files on school bus driver training for audit purposes.

8.

Prepare training records and schedules for the purpose of identifying training needs for new and experienced bus drivers.

9.

Schedule all training and proficiency tests, publish all training calendars and ensure that all training requirements are met.

10.

Assist in the evaluation of transportation routes and bus stops for safety and the reporting of unsafe road conditions.

11.

Assist with transportation office/dispatch duties.

Drive a school bus or other District vehicle as needed 13.

Other duties as assigned WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Ability to communicate (verbally and written), concentrate, reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate, compile, compute, and maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift and/or carry heavy weight (45 pounds or more), perform repetitive hand motions, work around moving objects or vehicles, and periodically work prolonged or irregular hours.
