Under the general direction of the Fire Science Director, the Fire Science Coordinator plans, organizes, and assists with managing the Yavapai College Firefighter I and II Academy, as well as the Fire Science program.
This is a Full-Time position; some evening and weekend hours are required.
Yavapai College Fire Academy Coordinator Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, and manages logistics for the College Firefighter Academy.
Available to work during the Academy hours, including Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Saturday's daytime hours, in addition to planning days.
Adaptable to changes in the Academy schedule.
Assists in developing the Academy schedule, working closely with Lead Instructors.
Schedules and assigns instructors according to date and subject matter.
Ensures that Lead Academy Instructors are assigned and prepared according to the schedule and discretion of the Director of Fire Science.
Ensures all equipment is ready and available for use during academy training days.
Job Summary Serves as day-to-day coordinator for the Fire Academy in accordance with Yavapai College Fire Science technology standards and training.
Works closely with Lead Academy Instructors.
Assists in the coordination of the Fire Science Program outcomes and special projects.
Requirements: Coordinates the planning, sequencing, and integration of Fire Academy instruction, course scheduling, and student outreach and recruitment.
Essential And Marginal Function Statements Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Coordinates with staff and faculty; integrates and sequences Fire Academy instruction in concert with external, multidisciplinary learning communities; assists in the preparation for academy delivery of instruction, ensuring that course material is available and correct.
Observe lead Instructors and assist in teaching when needed.
Schedules Fire Academy and Fire Science training classes and facilities.
Manages the employee scheduling App and ensures the appropriate instructors are available for class days and times.
Provides logistic support for SCBAs, turnout gear, equipment, props, fire engines, and construction materials related to the fire academy.
Ability to repair and troubleshoot firefighting equipment and malfunctions.
Works with the Director of Fire Science and Fire Science faculty to ensure the physical safety of trainees during instruction; takes appropriate emergency action if students are hurt or distressed during training.
Ensures the comprehensive Cancer reduction program is followed.
Serves as the safety officer for vital sign monitoring during live fire evolutions and other high-stress training events.
Actively represents the Fire Science program at community outreach events, high school visits, college fairs, advisory committee meetings, and other Yavapai College-sponsored functions to promote program visibility and strengthen partnerships.
Coordinates and participates in student outreach, recruitment, orientation, testing, and related program initiatives, and coordinates Fire Academy graduations.
The Fire Science Specialist is expected to serve as an ambassador of the program and college, fostering awareness, engagement, and enrollment through professional presence and proactive communication with prospective students, community stakeholders, and agency partners.
Participates in a variety of committees and board meetings.
Assists in coordinating the strategic planning process and marketing of applicable Fire Academy training programs.
* Arizona Firefighter Certification or equivalent * Hazardous Materials Operations Level Certification * Current CPR card * Associate degree in Fire Science * NFPA 1403 Live Fire Instructor certified/qualified * NFPA Fire Instructor Level I * Emergency Medical Technician - EMT or CEP * Incident Safety Officer Qualified (ISO) * Modern public safety training philosophies in fire technology.
* Pertinent academy subject matter expert, including fire science.
* Ability to operate fire apparatus and equipment.
* Rescue, safety, and salvage procedures/techniques; fire behavior and extinguishment.

Environmental Conditions: The employee works in a classroom and outdoor training environment and may be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, electrical and moving equipment, and various fumes and airborne particles.
This position may require operating in IDLH environments as a safety officer or instructor during academy burns and live fire exercises.
