Facilitates overall operations of the food service program for the Family Enrichment Center.
Prepares well-balanced, nutritious meals for up to seventy children daily and performs all related clean-up.
Responsibilities include overseeing student workers, menu planning, record keeping, monthly reporting, and purchasing.
The incumbent will work with staff, students, and administration as part of a cohesive team.
Job Duties * Ordering, shopping, and inventory management * Menu planning * Food preparation and cooking * Enforcing safe food handling and sanitation practices * Maintaining kitchen and equipment * Providing food in accordance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program and USDA standards * Providing training, guidance, instructions, and daily supervision of student workers and assistants * Managing budget to actual expenses and providing the director with budget projections * Maintaining kitchen at a high standard, ensuring compliance with Department of Health guidelines * Maintaining equipment listing and schedules equipment preventative maintenance * Maintaining detailed records to meet Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements * Understanding and providing accommodations for children with special dietary needs * Additional Responsibilities: perform other duties as assigned in all food service areas to support departmental goals and business needs.
* High School Diploma or GED equivalency * Training in the areas of nutrition and food safety * Three years of food services experience, with at least one year cooking for groups of young children * Knowledge of temperature and food storage requirements, meal planning, portion control, and child allergies * Ability to relate well to young children, staff, and families * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively * Good written and verbal communication skills * Strong time management and record keeping skills * Ability to maintain composure and exhibit flexibility in a busy work environment with time pressures * Regular attendance * Associate's degree and/or college coursework in nutrition or culinary arts * Food Safety Manager Certification * Kitchen manager training * Supervisory experience * Knowledge of the Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations and reporting requirements * Willingness and ability to provide information and training on nutrition and meal planning to parents * Valid CPR/First Aid card or willingness to obtain * Work experience in a community college/higher education environment To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
