General Summary

O'Neill is looking for an Associate Designer for our art department. We are seeking an individual who will work well in a fast-paced environment, has a positive attitude, is quality driven and pays close attention to detail. The Associate Designer is responsible for supporting the design and execution of all graphics, textile art and product details across the product development process. The Associate Designer will create and maintain all art, product details, tech packs, and BOMs in the company's PLM system & update VLP's. The Associate Designer will collaborate with the Design Director, Designers & Merchandisers on the design and creation of assorted product categories with an emphasis on graphic design, textile design, CAD design for seasonal collections, capsules, Special Make-Ups & Collaborations.

Essential Job Functions

Responsible for supporting the design and execution of assigned graphic design, textile design, printable styles & Body CAD's

Responsible for supporting execution of details including silhouettes, fabric, fit, print, branding and all styling details

Responsible for maintaining all cads, product details, tech packs, and BOMs, in the PLM system

Responsible for maintaining all VLP's with current CAD's & style info

Must be proficient in executing complete tech packs in Illustrator format

Support of designs across the design lifecycle processes including; fittings, development reviews, comments to sourcing, and seasonal style handovers

Ownership of all design deadlines across the company's development calendar

Creates silhouette/detail/print/color mood boards for each season for design director to review

Support the Design Director with seasonal graphic design initiatives & assigned projects

Establish strong relationships with cross functional partners in merchandising, product development, tech and production

Responsible for lab dip & strike-off comments & approvals with a sharp eye for color theory, print techniques and scale

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to execute on trim, packaging, & branding designs

Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and organize daily activities

Ability to work as a team player and take direction & critiques

Ability to work independently and meet all design deadlines

Highly organized

Innovative, self-motivated, creative, organized and detail oriented

Knowledge of PLM Centric is a plus

Knowledge of the marketplace, competitor's product and the needs of O'Neill's customer

Must have ability to create and manipulate original graphic designs, artwork, textile prints in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop

Must possess excellent project management, time management and sense of urgency

Skill in identifying and resolving problems

Skill in operating Adobe design software and technological equipment

Skill in oral and written communication

Strong eye for trend and color

Strong interpersonal and team-work dynamics working across divisions and genders

Strong sense of color theory, trends & competitive lifestyle market with a critical eye for detail

Strong understanding of graphic, textile, apparel design, development and garment construction

Working knowledge of textile and trim development

Required Education and Experience

AA or BFA in fashion focused Design Degree a plus

3-6 years of apparel design & product development experience

Proficient on Mac platform specifically with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop

Physical Requirements

Seeing: Must be able to see well enough to read reports.

Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with customers, vendors and employees.

Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to stoop or kneel to pick up products.

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.

Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to type and use technical sources.
