This classification will be responsible for effectively and efficiently responding to all incident and operational needs that occur within the Traffic Management Center (TMC). This position requires a thorough understanding of the various system tools and operational procedures utilized within the TMC. This position also requires flexible work hours, rotating shifts, and on-call support work to meet the demands of the TMC operation.
Working Conditions
Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Job Description
Essential Functions

Monitoring traffic status (by CCTV cameras and by GUI display/detector data), scheduled events, active events, etc.
Help senior technicians in coordinating with other operations staff with regards to external agency communications and general control room coordination, and other control room staff from other agencies to obtain a full understanding of all control room activity status.
Inform Emergency Services of Traffic Events - The TMC Technicians will assist the Traffic System Engineer by informing all Emergency Services of traffic events in the geographical coverage area of the TMC. These events vary in their scope and the methods on how the operator responds, notifying FHP, local police, fire and EMS services.
Taking information received from traffic monitoring activities, public safety agency scanners, or email alerts, and field devices, and packaging that information for senior technicians to review and disseminate.
Understands the basics of signal timing parameters and ability to monitor signal and other ATMS device connectivity using central signal management system and other software programs.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate/equivalent.
Level I, IMSA and/or ATSSA Signal Certification(s) and FDOT MOT Basic within one (1) year of hire date.
One (1) year experience in a Traffic Management Center setting.
Valid driver's license with valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Technical experience in the areas of traffic, communications, computers, or electronics desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge/familiarity with electrical systems.
Knowledge of the operation of hand and power tools required in assigned work.
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to become familiar with state and local regulations and the manual on traffic signal installations as required by assigned work.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, co-workers, supervisor and outside agencies.
Ability to perform manual tasks as required for area of assignment.
Skill in basic computer operations such as spreadsheets and word processors is required.
