This position reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer for clinical governance, leadership and strategic oversight with the assistance of the Senior Director of Provider and Specialty Services in facilitating administrative operations.

The Pediatric APP provides comprehensive, family-centered pediatric care for patients from newborn through young adult (age limits as defined by practice). The APP delivers preventive care (well-child visits, immunizations, developmental screening), evaluates and manages acute and chronic pediatric conditions, coordinates care with specialists and community resources, and documents care in the EMR consistent with clinical guidelines, state law, and organizational policies.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct well-child visits, sports and school physicals, newborn and infant visits, and adolescent care including anticipatory guidance and transition planning in accordance with established standards of care.

• Perform age-appropriate developmental and behavioral screenings (ASQ, M-CHAT, PHQ-A) and manage common behavioral/mental health concerns or coordinate referrals.

• Diagnose and treat acute illnesses (ear infections, upper respiratory infections, gastroenteritis, skin conditions) and manage common chronic conditions (asthma, ADHD, obesity, eczema, diabetes as applicable).

• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and labs; coordinate immunizations per CDC/ACIP schedule and maintain accurate immunization records.

• Provide newborn care, lactation support, and parent education when appropriate; perform newborn weight checks and early follow-up visits as needed.

• Prescribe medications within scope of practice, maintain DEA registration if required, and manage medication monitoring and refills.

• Provide care coordination and referrals to pediatric subspecialists, behavioral health, early intervention, and community resources; participate in care conferences.

• Document encounters accurately and timely in the current Electronic Medical record using the documented best practice workflows accurately and efficiently. Complete coding and billing tasks per organizational policy.

• Provide anticipatory guidance and culturally sensitive education to patients and families on nutrition, safety, development, and preventive health.

• Recognizes and reports relevant information, requiring urgent attention and ensures proper follow through.

• Serve as preceptor/mentor for students and new APPs and participate in staff education.

• Keeps knowledge base current by successfully attending educational workshops.

• Participate in telephone triage/telemedicine visits as needed and provide after-hours coverage per clinic policy (if applicable).

• Maintain patient panels and strive to meet access, quality, and patient satisfaction benchmarks. Present as good stewards for Primary care and Huggins Hospital.

• Participate in practice meetings, quality improvement projects, peer review, and practice guideline implementation.

• Supervise and collaborate with nurses, medical assistants, care coordinators, and all other members of multi-disciplinary teams; may serve as preceptor/mentor for students and new APP's.

• Participates in patient evaluation and treatment of students at Brewster Academy

• Maintain confidentiality and comply with all regulatory, privacy, and billing/coding requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers

• Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress

• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication

• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner

• Familiarity with computer and other business machines

Qualifications:

• Master's or graduate degree from an accredited NP or PA program; Pediatric NP certification (CPNP-PC/AC or equivalent) OR NCCPA certification with pediatric experience.

• Current, unrestricted state license as NP or PA (or ability to obtain).

• National pediatric certification (e.g., CPNP, PNP-PC, or PA-C with pediatric focus) preferred.

• Active, unrestricted state medical license (or ability to obtain).

• Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain).

• Current BLS and PALS certification.

• Strong clinical skills in pediatric outpatient medicine.

• Effective communication skills with children, adolescents, and families.

• Proficiency with electronic medical records and basic office productivity tools.
