Job Description

Reports to: Assistant Maintenance Manager

Department: Maintenance

FLSA Status: Hourly

Hours: Monday - Friday / 6:00am - 2:30pm

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE

The Painter possesses the ability to assist in a variety of skills encompassing most of the construction trades; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site. Possess the ability to deal tactfully, effectively and courteously with co-workers, management and our customers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS

Conduct regular building tours, inspections, identifying needs and executing corrective action and/or coordinating with management and outside contractors.

Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them

Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques

Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.)

Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary

Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.

Protect all nearby furnishings and building materials before and during every painting job, including carpets, cabinetry, outlet covers, lighting fixtures and landscaping

Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.

Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler.

Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.

Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor used.

Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.

Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

Store, handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.

Able and willing to work independently and as a team member

Workdays and schedules are generally routine, however are subject to change. Be prepared/available to work nights or weekends, on a rotating basis, to service emergency needs of our customers.

Following all safety requirements including lockout/tagout and use appropriate PPE

Identify and report to Maintenance Supervisor potential opportunities for additional business (newer system, service contracts, and additional services).

OT may be required without notice to complete work assigned - time off may be offered or required within the same pay period to meet budget demands.

Maintain good working order of company vehicle including refueling, report any mechanical issues and filling out and submitting monthly vehicle inspection form.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of apprenticeship.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid NC drivers' license.

EXPERIENCE: Requires two to four years' residential or commercial painting experience.

SKILLS: Conscientious with great attention to detail. Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc. Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must lift / move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. The noise level is usually moderate.
