THE PRACTICE
Humboldt County Behavioral Health - Eureka, CA
Humboldt County Behavioral Health, provides mental health services for Humboldt County residents, including eligible Medi-Cal patients. Their county services provide treatment to address their residents' mental health systems, arranging follow-up quality care, and a referral network of resources. TBH supports Humboldt County Behavioral Health with Adult and Child & Adolescent physicians to address the needs of their patients.
Jail Services
15 hours per week (1.5 days)
8 AM - 6 PM PT
8-12 adults per day
0-3 emergency involuntary medications a day (include seclusion and restraint)
Participate in hearings for involuntary medication (1-3 a month, court order to medicate every day)
Lock down 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
EMR - Cor, SmartCare
IM team on site/on a separate floor - few days a week
1370 evaluations - capacity for involuntary medication
1603 - appear in court (through zoom, but may have to go in person if zoom doesn't work - court attached to building)
Managing in-patient level situation - requiring seclusion restraints, and IM regularly (worst case scenario)
20-30 inmates, 1 officer for the dorm setting
Nurses assist with medications and orders
Outpatient Services
Coordinate with nurse (Friday 12 PM - 6 PM)
i.e. may see 6 people, medication orders for 15 (will review charts and make orders/titration)
Half day outpatient clinic, 4-6 people on half day (nurse calls to confirm apt)
Patients released from jail, needing medication order will also be seen in outpatient services (AB9 probation as well)
Sometimes see patients on parole
Continuity of care to help keep patients out of jail
No security on site, if any issues local police can intervene

THE AREA
Eureka is a port city in Northern California. Its Old Town district features elaborate Victorian houses such as the nearby Carson Mansion. Sequoia Park Zoo is home to pandas, primates, and features a walk-through aviary. Next to the zoo, Sequoia Park is home to massive old-growth redwood trees. Guided boat cruises aboard the early-1900s Madaket ferry take in the sights, seals and birdlife of Humboldt Bay.
