Position Subject to Schedule Availability of Budgeted Funds Part-Time not to exceed 25 hours per week Multiple locations Open until filled The role of the Part-Time Instructor, Construction is to provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise and to promote various student-centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life-long learning.
Various teaching strategies, learning styles and delivery methods including new technology systems will be utilized to reach this goal.
Maintains all activities associated with assigned course(s). The Part-Time Instructor, Construction receives supervision from the Dean, Business, Industry and Applied Technologies.
* Implements College goals as related to instructional area.
* Prepares, teaches and evaluates courses in all aspects of construction and related topics such as blueprint reading, tool and job safety and measurement.
* Uses various teaching strategies, learning styles and delivery methods to support student success.
* Remains current with industry technology, standards, trends and software.
* Maintains accurate records of students' attendance and performance.
* Participates and makes recommendations in the development of new course and program applications in conjunction with the Academic Dean.
* Reviews and revises, if necessary, program course syllabi.
* Incorporates retention strategies to encourage student / program completion.
* Assesses, prioritizes and orders equipment for the program and monitors the security of the program's equipment.
* Maintains a hazard free environment and practices safety in lab(s) or classroom.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Required: * High school diploma with at least two years of work experience or specialized training at the level required to meet professional preparation of assigned area of instruction.
* Must be able to lift at least 25lbs.
Desired: * Certificate, Diploma or associate's degree in Construction Technology or closely related field of study from a regionally accredited college or university.
* Five years of industry experience.
* Teaching experience.
* NC or VA Contractors License.
* OSHA Certified.
Required: * Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
* Ability to use a computer efficiently, especially standard office software.
* Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
* Must possess basic math and reasoning skills.
Desired: * Knowledge in related trades such as electrical and plumbing.
