Job Description
Position: Paraprofessional/Student Monitor
Reports to: Building Principal
Employment Status: Days and Salary as per the Negotiated Agreement
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Description: Performs a variety of non-teaching duties requiring the exercise of good judgment and the ability to get along well with children, youths, and/or young adults. Responsible for the supervision of students and student activities and for maintaining order in school buildings, on school grounds and playgrounds. Work requires the employee to be able to maintain discipline among students in a courteous but firm manner. This class differs from that of a Paraprofessional in that the latter assists teachers in a classroom setting.
Essential Functions:
Maintains a controlled environment for students and staff in the school buildings and campus;
Oversees and monitors student behavior on campus grounds to assist students with orderly school structure;
Oversees and monitors behavior of children, youth and/or young adults in a library setting, if assigned to a school district library;
May assist with supervision during recess and lunch periods;
May function as a representative for students to bring issues/concerns to the attention of teachers, counselors, and administration.
May occasionally perform miscellaneous manual clerical duties such as filing and making photocopies;
Monitors interactions between students, intervening when a situation appears to require it, by providing crisis prevention and intervention, for example, when a disagreement appears to be escalating into a physical altercation;
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides crisis prevention and intervention where appropriate;
Assists staff in crisis prevention;
Prepares and maintains routine event records and daily and weekly logs, including attendance;
May perform other related duties as assigned by school administrators.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
TB Test as necessary
Valid Ohio driver's license
experience in overseeing the activities of children and/or teenagers is desirable.
Preference may be given to applicants possessing a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certificate
Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to Utilize Microsoft Office and Google as well as other web based programs as provided by the district
Ability to work effectively with others
Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing

Ability to generate correspondence independently
Ability to operate all office equipment including copier/printer, phone system and computer
Ability to prioritize and complete job assignments for multiple supervisors
