The Trainer will serve as a key staff member for a statewide initiative funded by the New York State Council on Developmental Disabilities (CDD) to build and sustain a self-advocacy network for people with developmental disabilities.
This position is responsible for developing and delivering training sessions for self-advocates, parents, and community partners on topics related to disability rights, education advocacy, and access to services.
The Trainer will support both in-person and virtual delivery models, collaborate with peer mentors and subject matter experts, and contribute to resource development and data collection efforts.
The Trainer will represent the Center on Disability and Inclusion (CDI) at statewide events and support efforts to increase equitable access to advocacy resources in underserved communities.
Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and experience.
Skills and Knowledge * Strong understanding of disability rights and advocacy systems.
* Experience with adult learning and accessible training methods.
* Proficiency in both virtual and in-person training delivery.
* Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of special education and human service systems.
* Commitment to equity, inclusion, and working with underserved populations.
* Experience in community engagement and collaborative program design.
Responsibilities * Design and deliver trainings to parents, caregivers, and individuals with developmental disabilities statewide, in both virtual and in-person formats.
* Develop culturally responsive curricula and materials in collaboration with peer mentors and partners.
* Support outreach and community engagement efforts to increase training access among underserved populations.
* Collaborate with project evaluators and staff to document training activities and support performance tracking.
* Provide individualized technical assistance and follow-up support to training participants as needed.
