SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated Patient Care Clerk to join our Ambulatory Department. Under general supervision, this position interviews patients in order to explain Hospital policies and procedures; Obtain additional personal, medical, or insurance information, and to obtain necessary consent signatures. Schedule patient visits and assist in coordinating appointments in other service areas of the hospital. The admitting functions are performed during day hours. Assists in other areas and performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilizes relevant information databases and calendars to schedule and coordinate patient visits in the clinic and COVID testing site as well as other ancillary departments within the hospital.

Processes preadmission forms and charts containing patient related personal, medical, and insurance information and prepares necessary identification tags to expedite patient experience.

Interview's patients in order to obtain any additional information, explain HIPAA policies and procedures, Notice of Privacy and ensures that all forms are explained, and all signatures are obtained.

Contacts medical assistant to inform them of patient's arrival. Relates any potential insurance issues to medical assistant and billing payments.

Checks out patients upon completion of visit.

Answers clinic telephones and retrieves voice mail messages. Manages messages as related to clinic operations.

Maintains regular contact with several Hospital departments in order to gather information (i.e., medical records, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, nursing floors, business office, etc.)

Creates and maintains related departmental records and operates a variety of standard office equipment such as telephones, calculators, all in one copy, scan and facsimile machine, computer, and others.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital's compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Six months to a year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to operate computers, calculators plus all other basic office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
