Position Overview:
The OSIsoft PI Senior Administrator is a key member of the IT infrastructure team responsible for the management, configuration, and maintenance of the OSIsoft PI system.
The OSIsoft PI system is a real-time data infrastructure used for collecting, storing, and analyzing operational data from various sources in an organization.
As a senior administrator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of the OSIsoft PI system.
Description:
Independently perform increasingly complex analytical tasks associated with IT infrastructure design, deployment and/or business application development Tasks may include those associated with the identification, deployment, and support of Infrastructure technologies (hardware and software) to support NSCE's business requirements.
Coordinates with users to determine requirements, analyze business problems, identify technology options, and define detailed specifications of technology solutions.
May also perform prototyping, design, configuration, development, testing, debugging, documentation and implementation of various software applications.
The work is varied and somewhat diverse on a day-to-day basis.
Assignments may require some originality and ingenuity to complete and have clear, specified objectives while following prescribed IT Control processes.
Work will include traveling to NSCE's generating assets to assist with IT-related projects therein, including patching, operations technology (OT), and upgrades to controls/operating systems.
Must communicate well as a team member, contributing to team decisions /objectives and sharing accountability for team goals.
Examples of required knowledge areas include: server administration, network, software distribution, and data base technologies, capacity and performance techniques, voice and wireless technologies, internet infrastructure, information security, and the systems development life cycle.
• Particularly critical to this position is familiarity with deploying and supporting real-time data solutions built on Aveva/OSI PI System (OT) including training of Operations personnel.
• Duties will include support of the PI environment hosted in our data center as well as local/on-site plant components and interfaces.
• The OT Software Engineer will use all PI System components, associated inbound and outbound interfaces, and their interaction with 3rd party business and control systems.
• The Software Engineer must also be able to design, develop and implement human machine interface (HMI) dashboards and reports in PI and in coordination with the associated businesses.
• The position will require extensive communication within our operating plants, with NSCE management, and across the community.
Responsibilities:
• Installation/configuration/monitoring of PI System servers, interfaces & user tools
• PI System tag creation/monitoring / maintenance
• Monitoring/maintenance of PI System security & deployment of patches
• PI System performance optimization, monitoring system health (CPU, RAM, HD space)
• Documenting procedures and sharing best practices
• Developing screens, dashboards KPIs, and reports with PI A/F and PI Vision
• Training users (NCSE leadership through plant operators) how to utilize PI interfaces.
Key Responsibilities:
• System Administration: Take ownership of the OSIsoft PI infrastructure, including installation, configuration, and ongoing management of the PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework (AF), and other related components. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure optimal system health.
• Data Management: Oversee data integration, acquisition, and storage within the OSIsoft PI system. Collaborate with various teams to define data structures, tags, and attributes that accurately represent the organization's assets and processes.
• Security and Access Control: Implement and maintain robust security measures for the OSIsoft PI system. Manage user access rights, implement authentication mechanisms, and regularly review security policies to ensure data confidentiality and integrity.
• Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively implement optimizations to enhance data retrieval and storage efficiency.
• Backup and Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategies for the OSIsoft PI system. Conduct regular backups, perform recovery drills, and ensure data integrity during the restoration process.
• System Upgrades and Patches: Plan and execute system upgrades and software patches in coordination with the IT team. Ensure that the OSIsoft PI system remains up-to-date with the latest releases and security fixes.
• Documentation and Training: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, changes, and best practices. Conduct training sessions for end-users and other team members to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the OSIsoft PI system.
• Incident Management: Respond to and resolve critical incidents related to the OSIsoft PI system promptly. Collaborate with the IT team and vendors as necessary to address complex issues and ensure minimal downtime.
• Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Generate regular reports on system performance, data usage, and trends to support decision-making processes and provide insights to stakeholders.
• Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and provide effective support for their data-related initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience as an OSIsoft PI system administrator, with at least [X] years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of OSIsoft PI system architecture, installation, and configuration.
• Proficiency in managing and troubleshooting PI Data Archive, PI AF, PI Vision, and related components.
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for real-time data management and data historian systems.
• Experience in implementing and maintaining data security measures, access controls, and user authentication mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and SQL would be advantageous.
