PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and building electrical system components; work includes the installation, replacement, inspection, testing, cleaning, preventive maintenance and repair of new and existing equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent
Journeyman or Master Electrical license (Plano, Richardson, Allen and Dallas)
Required to obtain journeyman's license within 12 months of hire date
Valid Texas driver's license
Commercial Driver's License (preferred)
Driving record that is insurable with Plano ISD's insurance carrier
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to communicate well and interact with all people in a courteous and positive manner
Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications
Ability to read and understand the English language, in order to interpret electrical instructions
Leadership qualities to be a positive role model in the department
Ability to model safe working habits for employees
Experience:
Five years of experience in the electrical field which includes experience with public address and
master clock systems
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Analyze each job assignment and consult with the Cluster Supervisor to ensure materials are available
Generate work orders and establish a record for reference showing a history of labor and material used
Maintain and repair main electrical distribution switch gear when necessary
Repair complete electrical control systems
Install electrical service from the electrical main, including installation of all conduits and wiring necessary to complete the required task
Install and maintain fluorescent, incandescent, HID, LED and emergency lighting
Respond to emergency after-hours electrical repairs when on call on a rotated on call basis when necessary
Drive Plano ISD vehicles to inspect worksites and transport wire/equipment to job sites
Follow safety rules and procedures, and assume the responsibility to ensure safety rules are being followed by electrical technicians
Maintain interior and exterior of company vehicle in a clean manner
Check the mechanical functions of vehicles on a regular basis and report any irregularities to Transportation/Motor Pool
Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from supervisors
Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor
Perform other functions that may be assigned by the administration and/or supervisor
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Respond to and immediately address any active threat incident on campus
Patrol assigned campus and be visible throughout the day, especially during passing periods, lunch periods, drop-off and pick-up
Assist with and be visible during drop-off and pickup
Conduct frequent exterior door sweeps to ensure all doors are locked, closed and functioning properly
Immediately brief Safety and Security Coordinator on safety or security issues discovered and/or brought to your attention
Work closely with campus staff and other district personnel to promote a safe and secure environment
Conduct Safety and Security Inspections at assigned campus
Demonstrate and maintain firearms proficiency as determined by the district
Participate as a member of the Campus Emergency Planning Team
Patrol district in marked security vehicle and respond to campuses as assigned
Assist in drills and exercises that promote emergency preparedness of campus
Promote and reinforce district policies and procedures relating to safety and security
Serve as liaison between campuses and law enforcement, fire/EMS personnel and other outside agencies responding to incidents or investigating matters of concern to the district
Complete incident reports and other documents as required or directed in an accurate and timely manner
Provide security coverage at campus or district special events and functions as needed
Utilize district security cameras to review incidents and/or save video footage as required or instructed
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times
Serve as a resource to campus in areas of safety, security and emergency preparedness
Serve as the department's representative on Level 1 threat assessments when instructed or requested to do so
Attend training as required or directed
Operate walk-thru and handheld metal detectors as assigned
Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from supervisor

Perform all other duties as assigned by the administration and/or supervisor
Equipment Used:
Test and mechanical equipment used in preventive maintenance and construction. Examples: Trencher, testers, meters, wire puller, conduit benders, wire measuring meters, meggers, etc. Plano ISD vehicles (van, pick-up, bucket truck, etc.). Operates Plano ISD vehicles (van, pickup, bucket truck, etc.)

Ability to communicate (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control under stress
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent lifting and carrying, 15-50 pounds; frequent twisting, reaching above shoulder, bending, climbing and kneeling; manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion; periodically exposed to live high voltage and currents; may work under conditions of inclement weather (rain, ice, snow, cold and extreme heat, etc.); frequently exposed to live high voltage and currents; required to work on ladders. Must work around students of all ages in a professional, safe manner.
