High School English Language Arts Teacher Licensure Area: English (0009) Nature of Work Under general supervision, plans, organizes, and delivers instruction in English Language Arts to help students develop communication skills, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of literature and writing.
Creates an engaging classroom environment that supports students' educational and social growth.
Duties and Responsibilities * Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study prescribed by the district-approved curriculum.
* Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for diverse learners at varying levels of maturity and ability.
* Delivers individual and group instruction to meet student needs and motivate learners.
* Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct to ensure effective participation in all activities.
* Evaluates students' academic and social growth and maintains accurate records.
* Communicates regularly with parents and guardians through conferences, written reports, and other methods.
* Identifies student needs and collaborates with colleagues to address academic, behavioral, and health-related concerns.
* Creates a positive and stimulating environment for learning through classroom displays, interest centers, and other supports.
* Maintains professional competence through district in-service training, professional development, and/or university coursework.
* Participates in the evaluation process in accordance with district guidelines.
* Selects and maintains instructional materials and classroom inventory.
* Assists in the supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
* Participates in faculty and district committees and sponsors student activities.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience * Bachelor's degree, including all coursework required to meet credential standards.
* Valid North Carolina teaching license in English Language Arts (9-12) or eligibility to obtain one.
Essential Job Functions * Operates classroom and office equipment such as computers, copiers, projectors, and related instructional tools.
* Performs tasks requiring light physical effort, including lifting or moving classroom materials.
* Reads, prepares, and communicates a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, and instructional materials.
* Applies logical reasoning and problem-solving skills to classroom management and instructional challenges.
* Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and colleagues.
* Adapts to high-pressure situations, exercising sound judgment during emergencies.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective classroom management and student behavior expectations.
