* JOB SUMMARY * Provides total patient care in accordance with physician's orders and individual patient needs in conformance with the recognized standards of nursing practice.
* DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties: * Assesses patient and/or conducts screenings and documents utilizing standard scales when indicated as required per organization.
* Prioritizes and documents patient problems based on assessed needs/problems in collaboration with patient, family, and health care team.
* Documents changes in patient condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care/intervention.
* Utilizes organization-wide safe medication practices including, but not limited to the 5 rights of medication administration, barcode scanning and other medication safety processes specific to the unit/department.
* Knows actions and usual dosage, indications and side effects of medications administered.
* Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant other as needed according to the care, treatment services and identified risks specific to the patient and documents patient and/or family understanding.
* EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS * Minimum requirement: * Graduate from an accredited school of nursing for Registered Nurses.
* Maintains active RN license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and any other states as applicable.
* Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) * Achieves and maintains other certifications as required by department: * Adult Patient Care Units- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within the first 90 days of hire.
* Preferred qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Nursing * WORKING ENVIRONMENT * Constantly works near moving mechanical parts * Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
* Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals * Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation * The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
* PHYSICAL DEMANDS * Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting). * Frequently required to walk and move about.
* Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
* Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
* Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
* Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
* Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
* Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
* Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
