Network Technician Department: Network Services Location: Jerry Sue Thornton Center Reports To: Director of Network Services Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req5369 Employment Type: Full-Time Support Staff Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30AM-5:00PM.

Will participate in an on-call rotation, also specified in the job description.

Number of Openings: 1 Job Description: SUMMARY Provides primary implementation, management, and support for core technology infrastructure systems, including but not limited to switches, routers, and servers.

Maintains monitoring and documentation for core infrastructure.

Works closely with vendors and service providers with installations and provides College data and voice connectivity along with troubleshooting issues.

Responds to incidents in the on-call rotation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Server and network administration * Installs, configures, diagnoses and repairs network switching infrastructure * Provides technical level II troubleshooting and resolution for a College-wide network * Installs, configures, diagnoses and repairs all server infrastructure * Maintains all aspects of the infrastructure through regular upgrades, patches and replacement * Installs, configures, diagnoses and repairs major infrastructure services, such as, but not limited to: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Email * Collaborates with all internal and external stakeholders to implement the best technology solution * Works with vendors to resolve infrastructure issues * Possesses an in-depth understanding of communications technologies and advanced troubleshooting skills * Demonstrated willingness and ability to travel to various College sites for installs and updates * Participates in an on-call rotation for approximately a week approximately every month * Performs other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING * Bachelor's Degree * Significant related experience may substitute for education * Minimum of two years of fulltime IT networking experience * Demonstrated network management and support experience * Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team * Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem-solving methods in adaptive situations KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES * Possess strong organizational and time-management skills * Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills * Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively * Ability to research and analyze issues and develop solutions * Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail * Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently * Possess comprehensive knowledge of IT Network theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations * Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity * Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects * Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects * Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues * Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality * Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships * Critical thinker with ability to identify and implement efficiencies within daily operations * Ability to occasionally lift up to fifty pounds of networking or computer equipment * Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING * Demonstrated VMware vSphere management experience * Demonstrated Cisco network management experience * Demonstrated Unified Communications management experience COMPETENCIES CRITICAL COMPETENCIES * Service Focus * Communication * Quality of Work VERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES * Time Utilization * Continuous Improvement IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES * Collaboration * Adaptability PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS (The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Target Starting Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000 The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range, but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
