Work involves responsibility for performing and leading less senior maintenance workers in a variety of maintenance and repair tasks.
Work includes operating power tools plus medium and heavy construction equipment.
Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise vibration and working in hazardous conditions, (such as confined space, ditches and traffic areas). Job specifications are dependent upon experience.

Utility System Technician Trainee ($52,520-$110,130): HS/GED; Minimum (3) months to (1) year basic experience with utility construction system installation or maintenance or equivalent combined experience and education.
Possession of a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License (CDL) minimum Class B with tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire.
Ability to obtain VDOT Flagging Certification; CPR-First Aid Certification within 12 months of hire.
Utility System Technician ($53,530-$112,248): HS/GED, (2) two to (3) three years of specific utility maintenance or installation experience including: assisting with difficult utility repairs or installations of large water and sewer mains, operation and familiar with the variety of tools used in this field to include, equipment and appropriate vehicles and knowledge of utility locating of underground utilities.
Knowledge in MS Suite applications and computer program applications appropriate to the position.
VDOT Basic Work Zone Certificate or obtain within (1) year of employment.
Possession of a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Minimum Class B, with tanker endorsement.
CPR-First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
Ability to assist with emergencies repairs on an "on call" basis; and training/ability to work in confined spaces.
Senior Utility System Technician ($56,207-$120,090): HS/GED, plus (4) four to (5) five years of experience in Utility repairs.
Ability to operate all types of Utility Locating equipment.
Intermediate computer knowledge GIS (Geographic Information System), Microsoft Office Suite.
VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Certificate or obtain within (1) one year of employment.
Experience in working under heavy traffic conditions and ability to establish a work zone sign layout.
Extensive knowledge of construction and repair methods and materials.
Provide leadership in the completion of complex utility system repairs.
Possession of a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) minimum Class A with tanker endorsement.
CPR-First Aid Certification.
Ability to work emergencies repairs on an "on call" basis; and /ability to work in confined spaces.
Utility System Technician Trainee: (1) one - (2) two plus years of specific utility system maintenance experience.
Heavy construction equipment experience Utility System Technician: (5) Five plus years of utility system repairs.
Bilingual Senior Utility System Technician: Associates Degree or completion of college courses.
(5) Five plus years of utility system repairs.
(1) One to (2) two years performing Virginia Procurement Purchasing.
Supervisor experience or training.
Advanced Computer skills.
