General Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University invites applications for the position of a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor. We are a diverse department covering the breath of biological sciences with faculty in the areas of cell and molecular biology, ecology and evolution, development, microbiology, and physiology. We have graduate programs for Ph.D., MS and MA students.
Major Duties
Establish and maintain an externally funded research program in molecular genetics of eukaryotic organisms, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students on research projects.
Teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in area of expertise. Potential courses include BIOS 1610 Molecular and Cellular Biology, BIOS 2500 General Genetics, and upper-level courses in area of expertise.
Serve on departmental and University committees as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
A doctoral degree in biological sciences from an accredited institution.
Two years of relevant postdoctoral experience.
Knowledge in biological sciences demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications.
Evidence of ability to instruct a wide diversity of students.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in cross-cutting research focusing on the genetics or cell/molecular biology of eukaryotic organisms.
Experience in seeking and successfully obtaining extramural funding.
Evidence of a commitment to high quality teaching.
