Information Regarding the Pre-Apprentice Program:

Education Support Professionals of the Ogden School District, selected as a Paraeducator Pre-Apprentice, will have on the job, face to face, interactions with students and staff in order to develop skills to achieve the Utah Standards for Instructional Paraeducators. Those selected need to be enrolled in a university that provides a program towards Special Education Teaching Licensure.

University enrollment that qualifies for this program:

Salt Lake Community College, Salt Lake County, Utah

Snow College, Ephraim, Utah & Richfield, Utah

Utah State University, Logan, Utah

Weber State University, Ogden, Utah

Program Description:

We are seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to participate in the Paraeducator Pre-Apprentice Program. In this program, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of students while collaborating with the teaching staff to create a positive and engaging educational environment.

A benefit of this program is enrolling in the Utah Registered Apprenticeship Program for Teachers (U-RAPT), a new pathway for those seeking an educator license. U-RAPT pre-apprentices are eligible to receive up to $4,000 per year to cover college tuition, fees, and other instructional costs as funding permits.

Position Details: U-RAPT: All About Pre-Apprentices

Responsibilities:

Student Support: Provide individualized and small group instruction to students. Monitor student behavior and ensure a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere. Support students during classroom activities, transitions, and independent work. Assist with personal care needs as required. Passion for working with children and supporting their educational development.

Instructional Assistance: Collaborate with the teacher to prepare and organize instructional materials. Implement lesson plans and activities under the teacher's supervision. Provide feedback to students to support their academic growth.

Communication: Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and other staff members. Keep accurate records of student progress and behavior. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Professional Development: Actively participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated with current educational practices.

Relational Skills: Patience, empathy, and the ability to establish positive relationships with students and colleagues. Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic educational environment.

Administrative Tasks: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required

Physical ability to perform the job

Current Ogden School District Education Support Professional

Classroom Staff Assistant (willing to move into Special Education or;

Special Education Classroom Staff Assistant

If the candidate already has 42 college credits, they can apply for the Apprenticeship Position

Pass a background check

As a Paraeducator Pre-Apprentice, you will work under the supervision and guidance of assigned classroom teachers and a paraeducator journeyworker to help learn and demonstrate the Utah Instructional Paraeducator Standards.
