SALARY RANGE: Grade 10, Step 1 - $1,673.28 bi-weekly ($43,505.28 annually) GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This position is responsible for providing custodial, janitorial, and housekeeping services, as well as event support.
Duties include carpet cleaning, floor refinishing, and maintaining cleanliness in classrooms, offices, lounges, restrooms, and other assigned areas.
The role may also involve groundskeeping, basic maintenance, and other manual tasks necessary to support the upkeep and appearance of campus buildings and grounds.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Clean assigned campus areas, including offices, classrooms, corridors, walls, floors, windows, furniture, restrooms, and fixtures, using methods such as sweeping, washing, waxing, vacuuming, polishing, buffing, and dusting.
* Empty and clean waste barrels, recycling bins, and other waste receptacles.
* Operate floor scrubbers, power washers, orbital buffers, and other power-driven equipment.
* Perform floor care duties such as dry mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, buffing, carpet extraction, and refinishing of tile floors in lounges, bathrooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
* Drive vehicles and operate equipment as required.
* Sweep sidewalks, courtyards, and entryways to maintain safe and clean conditions.
* Perform manual labor in stockrooms, storerooms, and/or mechanical rooms.
* Complete daily event setups, including moving and arranging furniture, equipment, and supplies.
* Assist with daily event management, including unlocking meeting rooms, checking out equipment, and monitoring event schedules.
* Remove snow by shoveling, sanding, and performing other manual snow control and disposal tasks.
* Perform simple general repairs, including minor equipment repairs and resetting electrical circuits not requiring a license or certification.
* Support campus maintenance and beautification through routine manual tasks.
* Assist skilled trades staff with maintenance, repair, or construction projects using appropriate hand and power tools.
* Perform groundskeeping tasks such as planting, seeding, transplanting, pruning, trimming, watering, spraying, and fertilizing trees, shrubs, grass, plants, and flowers.
* Clean, wash, refuel, oil, or grease trucks and automobiles in support of garage or equipment operations.
* Report hazardous or unusual conditions and submit work requests to appropriate staff.
* Maintain basic records such as logs, reports, or inventory counts.
* Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create work requests and record maintenance activities.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
* Serve as essential personnel and respond to emergency situations as needed.
* Work occasional nights and weekends as required.
Requirements: MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: * Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively in English.
* Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment, including safe handling practices.
* Ability to maintain floors, carpets, restrooms, and other high-traffic areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and appearance.
* Physical ability to perform custodial work, including standing and walking for long periods, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and working on ladders.
* Willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks, such as snow removal or light groundskeeping.
* Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with colleagues and the public.
* Possession of a valid Massachusetts Class D driver's license (or ability to obtain). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Experience with custodial or facilities work, particularly in an educational or institutional setting.
* Familiarity with inventory practices for cleaning supplies and equipment.
* Prior experience operating specialized floor care equipment (e.g., buffers, carpet cleaners) and other motorized equipment such as snow blowers, lawn mowers, or dollies.
* Ability to maintain accurate work and supply records.
* Comfort with physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects and working at heights.
