ABOUT THIS POSITION The Human Services Department provides a comprehensive array of services to help residents of Phoenix achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency.
Services and programs reach a diverse population ranging from preschool children participating in Head Start programs to older adults attending senior center activities.
The Human Services Department (HSD) Senior Programs operates 15 senior centers throughout the city of Phoenix for adults ages 18 and older.
Each center is dedicated to providing participants with a variety of leisure, educational and recreational activities in a safe and supportive environment.
Eight of the 15 senior centers are co-located with the Parks and Recreation Department.
In these sites, members may participate in Parks and Recreation programs in addition to the services available through the Human Services Department senior centers.
The Senior Programs Supervisor I manages the daily operations of a City of Phoenix senior center in the Human Services Department.
This position works independently and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, directing, and evaluating all programs, services, and activities that are provided to assist, educate, and engage older adults and disabled participants in a City of Phoenix senior center setting.
Programs, services, and activities include outreach; educational classes and lectures; physical exercises and recreational activities; social and special events; arts and crafts; physical and fitness programs; health and nutrition information; financial and legal presentations; distribution of USDA commodities and various food programs; transportation; and field trips.
The Senior Programs Supervisor I is a communication and resource link between field staff and administration.
Essential Duties Include: * Oversight of daily operations at a senior center.
* Responsible for assessing and coordinating facility needs and repairs.
* Research and recommend program enhancements.
* Outreach to increase participation and partnerships.
* Oversee contractual provider services.
* Monitor center budget and expenditures.
* Supervise professional and clerical employees and volunteers.
* Provide, schedule, facilitate, and coordinate programming, services, activities, and events for seniors.
* Coordinate with senior center advisory board and bingo committee.
* Support kitchen activities to include oversight of the lunch service program.
* Daily oversight of the senior centers production or serving kitchen compliance and safety.
* Food Manager certification is required within first 90 days of employment in the position.
IDEAL CANDIDATE * Ability to communicate in Chinese or Spanish is desirable.
SALARY Pay Range: $57,179.20 - $84,468.80 annually.
Hiring Range: $57,179.20 - $72,966.40 annually.

* Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, gerontology, or a related field.
* Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.

* Leadership and supervision experience.
* Writing and reviewing reports and presentations.
* Tracking budgets and financial expenditures.
* Supervising staff and volunteers.
* Microsoft Office Suite.
* First aid and safety practices and procedures.
* One or more years of experience working with aging adults and/or persons with disabilities or cognitive challenges.
* One or more years of experience working in a senior center, community or recreation center, or social service facility or program.
* Two or more years of experience in programming and special event coordination.
