Position Summary: Provides emergency medical care to the sick or injured under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
Provides age-specific direct and indirect patient care activities in compliance with hospital and emergency department policies and procedures.
Demonstrates competent performance of direct patient care activities while maintaining maximum comfort, safety, and dignity of patients in the often emergent atmosphere of the department.
Recognizes age-related variations in assessment data.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
* Collaborates with RN and facilitates patient care & flow.
* Assists RN or physician staff in bedside examination or treatments.
* Accurately takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, height, weight, and intake and output.
Promptly reports deviation from normal values.
* Transcribes and enters physician and nursing orders into the Patient Computer System.
* Assists/accompanies/transports patients in admission, transfer, discharge, as well as to other departments in a safe, professional manner * Skillfully performs phlebotomy to obtain blood specimens according to appropriate specimen requirements.
Accurately labels specimen and packages for transport.
* Competently performs timely electrocardiograph examinations.
Recognizes cardiac dysrhythmias.
Promptly provides MD with tracing.
* Assists RN with providing discharge teaching/instructions and documents teaching on patient record.
* Applies splints as ordered by MD/ARNP/PA.
* Accurately and promptly collects specimens according to established protocols.
Reports inability to collect any requested specimen.
* Competently participates in resuscitation as directed by team.
* Competently performs IV cannulation for the purpose of IV therapy.
Maintains neatness, cleanliness, and readiness of physical facilities of patient care units.
* Thoroughly restocks patient areas and workstation - checking expiration dates as assigned.
* Safeguards against misuse or loss of equipment.
Promptly returns equipment to storage area after use.
Reports malfunctions/maintenance needs to BMETS/tags equipment per policy.
* Cleans, logs, and properly stores EMS equipment.
Position Qualification: Must successfully complete an EMS Board approved Paramedic course and be Licensed Paramedic in the state of Tennessee.
Current ACLS, BTLS, PALS and BLS certifications.
