If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary SUNY Cortland is accepting applications for full-time Cleaner positions as part of an ongoing recruitment effort to establish a hiring pool for current and future vacancies.
Applicants will be contacted for interviews as needed, and those who advance will be added to the hiring pool.
This pool will be used to fill vacancies as they arise.
Work schedules will vary depending on position availability.
Cleaners perform a variety of routine manual tasks that require light to heavy physical effort.
Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining assigned areas within residence halls, academic buildings, and the surrounding campus grounds and sidewalks.

Experience Cortland dives deep into the region's offerings Major Responsibilities General Cleaning and Maintenance * Perform a variety of routine manual work under supervision.
* Use mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements to wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions,windows from the inside of buildings, etc.
* Use manual and/or mechanical equipment to strip, vacuum, and wax floors, and shampoo carpets.
* Use hand-dusting equipment to dust assigned areas.
* Strip the wax from furniture; clean and polish furniture.
* Use designated equipment to polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment.
* Use hand-operated equipment and detergents to scrub and clean all areas of lavatories, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, etc.
Safety and Hazard Removal * Pick up and remove any hazardous items from floors, furniture, and equipment, and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations.
Furniture and Equipment * Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions.
* Change curtains and drapes, and hang pictures or other decorative objects.
Lighting and High Areas * Use appropriate equipment such as ladders and scaffolds to clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs in high places.
Outdoor and Seasonal Tasks * Use manual and/or mechanical equipment to occasionally remove snow and to clean sidewalks, yards, and driveways.
Event and Facility Support * Set up equipment in assigned areas, such as athletic fields, gymnasiums, and conference or meeting rooms, as needed.
Specialized Environments * May work in laboratories or "clean room" areas where a high degree of cleanliness is required to minimize the possible spread of infection.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports directly to a supervising janitor and receives daily direction from a janitor or lead cleaner in the assigned building.
Required Qualifications There are no education or experience requirements.
Applicants must be able to routinely perform moderate to heavy physical labor and lift up to 40 lbs., read and interpret product labels and simple instruction, routinely climb stairs and possess the ability to kneel, bend, stoop, reach, climb ladders, and work from heights.
This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications Previous cleaning and/or labor type work experience preferred.
