POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing work in collecting and removing yard waste and debris from residential and public streets and outdoor areas.
4day/10hr Work Schedule: Tuesday -Friday: 6:30am - 5:00 pm (some mandatory weekends as well)
The starting annual salary is $45,867.44 (Grade D)
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Public Works Supervisor. Works under the general supervision of the Supervisor. Work is checked for accuracy, quality, and adherence to instructions. Employees may need to occasionally choose from defined alternatives to resolve problems but consult with the Supervisor on matters not covered by guidelines. Incumbents have no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Not all duties may be assigned to each position. The allocation of responsibilities for this position will vary based on the level in the job classification series. It will be dependent upon skill level and the location of the work assigned.
1.Drives and operates vehicles, including an ASL, Rear Loader, Knuckle Boom, Leaf vacuum, Flat bed, and dump trucks, to collect residential yard waste.
2.Collect yard waste debris from public streets.
3.Completes assigned and scheduled routes safely on time and without assistance.
4.Drives a designated vehicle to a designated disposal site, unloads, and returns directly to the route.
5.Operate the assigned equipment safely. Ensures proper traffic control and safety procedures and devices are available for traffic control during collection activities.
6.Clears storm drains and maintains stormwater conveyance infrastructure.
7.Applies rock salt or salt brine and performs snow and ice removal from Town streets and sidewalks, including snow plowing.
8.Performs operators' preventive checks and minor preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
9.Operate hand-held electronic devices for routing and pre- and post-trip procedures.
10.Reports maintenance and/or repair needs that require mechanical assistance.
11.Completes work orders, daily activity reports, inspection reports, and time sheets; maintains maintenance and service records/logs and other pertinent information.
12.Respond to customer complaints and/or concerns. Advises the Supervisor (s) of complaints and/or concerns not resolved.
13.Responds to essential field personnel in emergency and inclement weather situations.
14.Assists with set-up and clean-up for Town-sponsored festivals, parades, and events.
15.Provide back-up support and assistance to the department as needed.
16.Reports on work for after-hours needs, assigned.
17.Other duties as assigned.

1.Knowledge of safe and proper solid waste handling practices.
2.Knowledge of items banned from disposal in landfills.
3.Knowledge of what constitutes hazardous waste and yard waste.
4.Knowledge of traffic safety principles.
5.Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
6.Working knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements related to the work.
7.Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations about using tools and motorized equipment.
8.Knowledge of legal load limits for assigned equipment and vehicles.
9.Ability to operate assigned machinery and equipment skillfully and safely near vehicular traffic.
10.Knowledge of operating, caring, and repairing maintenance equipment and tools.
11.Knowledge of occupational hazards (OSHA) and safe work practices, including Safety Data Sheets.
12.Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
13.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
14.Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work products while adapting to constant changes in priority.
15.Ability to understand and effectively carry out local policies and procedures, written instructions, general correspondence, and Federal, State, and local regulations.
16.Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.

1.This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force and strenuous manual labor, including, but not limited to, digging, shoveling, sweeping, raking, hauling, crawling, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and climbing.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.High school diploma or equivalent.
2.Previous experience in public works, construction, or solid waste is preferred.

1.Level II: Must have a valid Class B CDL Driver's license minimum.
