Skate Guard Hours vary depending on facility needs.
Pay Range: $15 per hour SUMMARY Under the direction of the Assistant Program Coordinator or disignee; Skate Guards are responsible for the safety of patrons that attend the Robert Crown Community Centers public skating sessions.
The goal of this position is to assure patrons have a safe, positive and engaging skating experience where they will want to be regular patrons of the facility.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS * Minimum age of 16 years old.
* Must be able to ice skate forward and backward skate, stop effectively as well as be able to do forward crossovers.
* Strong interest, maturity and judgment in dealing with the patrons on the ice.
* Possess the ability to work as a team member with other guards on duty as well as the instructors teaching private lessons, and other facility staff.
* Act as a role model; provide assistance when needed, and interact positively with patrons * Provide assistance with first aid situations, as well as the ability to complete a first aid report.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Setting up cones and checking the ice surface for skating hazards, debris, and closing the bench doors.
* Ensure the safety of all patrons while on the ice.
* Ensure all participants are following the Public Skating rules.
* Actively moving throughout the public skate area which is the perimeter of the rink.
* Arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the Public Skate session.
* Provide additional facility information to the public if requested.
* Proper ice rink attire; no hats or ear buds while skating.
* Following the conclusion of the public skate return rentals skates and skating aids to designated storage areas.
* Clean up the main lobby area after public sessions have concluded.
* Perform other related work as assigned.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Knowledge of basic computer programs, including E-mail, Word Software Package.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK Ability to work primarily indoors and is occasionally subject to outdoor environmental conditions - no effective protection from the weather conditions or temperature changes.
The employee performs tasks outdoors related to recreational programs, weather can be hot in the summer, etc., while in the fall and spring can be cool/cold.
Employees should have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly, in addition to the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Have the ability to lift, reach, handle, finger, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, talk, hear, feel, smell, climb, maintain balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, and see the nature of the object by the eye.
There are no environmental hazards associated with this classification.
