The Student Assistant - Campus Safety will assist the Campus Safety staff at Stevenson University in the performance of their duties daily and at special events providing crowd and parking management.

They will assist Campus Safety staff when needed to answer telephones, facilitate emergency response and report circumstances that may jeopardize the safety and security of persons or property on site and while in attendance on the campus.

Education/Experience Currently enrolled Stevenson University student in good standing with the University academically and judicially.

Have a clean criminal record, a valid driver's license with good driving record; must be insurable.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability * Ability to maintain confidentiality.

* Verification of full-time or part-time enrollment.

* Valid driver's license * Ability to work closely under the direction of a Campus Safety officer.

* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

* Understand and follow safety procedures and make logical decisions, detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.

* Possess excellent interpersonal skills to include courtesy, politeness and the ability to successfully interact with different cultures and personalities in a professional and tactful manner.

* Proficient with Microsoft Office * Must take and pass the Stevenson Drivers Training class * Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements Medium work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Keyboarding, climbing, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, talking, hearing.

Visual acuity is required to observe unauthorized or unlawful, unsafe or hazardous situations, behaviors of individuals, to describe physical descriptions of people, articles, or activities, to view suspicious activities, to perform routine security checks, to complete written reports and view computer terminals.

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; subject to occasional extreme heat and cold; subject to hazards.

Will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.

May be required to stand for long periods of time.

May be required to run certain distances in emergency situations.

May be exposed to hazardous materials or chemicals.

Essential Functions * Assist Campus Safety staff in the management of crowds at athletic events, performances, speaker series events, commencements, social events and other special functions taking place on the campus.

(i.e.

Direct traffic, answer questions, provide information and give directions, inspect bags and parcels.) * Use a telephone and two-way radio to communicate with campus personnel and the campus safety staff.

* Work with faculty, staff, students and visitors in a professional manner.

* Report unsafe, unlawful, suspicious activity or potentially hazardous circumstances to Campus Safety personnel in a timely manner.

* Assist Campus Safety personnel as directed with the response of emergency personnel to the campus.

* Monitor the lobby areas of specified campus buildings i.e.

dormitories, to verify authorized access.
