The Director of Purchasing is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all procurement activities at the university, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
This executive position develops and implements sourcing strategies, vendor management practices, and purchasing policies to optimize cost-effectiveness, quality, and service.
The Director leads a team of procurement professionals and collaborates with academic and administrative departments to support the university's mission through the acquisition of goods and services.
Responsibilities * Develop and lead a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the university's strategic goals and fiscal objectives.
* Oversee and manage all purchasing operations, including vendor selection, contract negotiations, purchase orders, and procurement systems.
* Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional purchasing laws and regulations, including minority/women-owned business enterprise (MWBE) targets.
* Lead strategic sourcing initiatives and contract lifecycle management to drive cost savings and improve service delivery.
* Manage relationships with key suppliers, monitor vendor performance, and resolve procurement issues in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
* Partner with Finance, Legal, Risk Management, Facilities, IT, and academic units to coordinate procurement activities for major projects, grants, and institutional initiatives.
* Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and purchasing metrics, providing data-driven insights to executive leadership.
* Champion sustainability, diversity, and ethical practices in procurement operations.
* Supervise, train, and develop purchasing staff, promoting continuous improvement and professional growth.
Education * Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field.
* Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in purchasing or procurement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
* Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
