The 7th and 8th grade courses have been recently revamped.
To support our highest-achieving students, our 8th-grade Explore Computer Science course features selected content from our high school introductory course.
Many of our middle school students continue their passion for Computer Science in our growing high school Computer Science program.
Qualifications: * NJ Middle School or High School Teaching Certification is required.
* NJ Computer Science Certification 1820 is preferred.
The ability to obtain this certification prior to the 2027-2028 school year is required.
* Ability to demonstrate proficiency with CS concepts using a programming language common in education (ex: Java, Python, JavaScript) is required.
* Experience teaching CS at any level (elementary, middle, high school, college) is preferred.
* Experience teaching CS at a high school level is a plus.
Responsibilities: * Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
* Support and enhance a sense of belonging and academic success for all students with specific attention to students from traditionally marginalized populations.
* Foster social and emotional intelligence through effective classroom management and discussion/teaching.
* Effectively teach content assigned (general or specialist). * Prepare robust daily instruction and weekly lesson plans for all subjects according to Morris School District programs and policies.
* Collaborate with a professional learning community (PLC) to engage in reflective dialogue that will improve teaching and learning for all students.
* Integrate technology and interactive elements into classroom instruction.
* Utilize approved district data sources to analyze student progress and provide targeted, differentiated instruction for all students.
* Build intentional and honest relationships with parents to update them on student progress and further understanding of their child's development and learning style.
* Prepare and assign personalized academic assignments, homework, and projects according to district policy, approved curriculum guidance, and student needs.
* Grade assignments in accordance with district guidelines-provide constructive feedback and work with students to set personalized learning goals aligned with grade level/content standards.
* Monitor, evaluate, and report student progress, including academic growth, social skills, and behavior modification.
* Maintain and update files, including student paperwork, as needed.
* Set personal and professional goals aligned with the district and school vision and the approved evaluation tool for the Morris School District.
* Attend and apply strategies from professional development sessions and meetings organized by principal/supervisor and district.
* Contribute to district CS resources (ex: projects, exercises, assessments). * Recruit and retain CS students, including those from underrepresented populations.
* All other duties as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.
