Position Title: Special Education Instructional Tech Coach
Location: TBD

SUMMARY:
The Special Education Instructional Coach is responsible for collaborating with special education teachers, general education teachers, support staff, and administrators to enhance student learning through the effective use of instructional technology. The coach will provide training, modeling, and ongoing support to ensure that technology tools are used to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
Key responsibilities include assessing technology needs, recommending appropriate tools and resources, modeling best practices for technology integration, and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both special education and instructional technology, excellent communication skills, and a passion for improving student outcomes through innovative and inclusive educational practices. The Special Education Tech Coach plays a critical part in bridging the gap between pedagogy and technology to foster an engaging, accessible, and differentiated learning environment for all students.
DUTIES
Instructional Support
Collaborate with special education teachers to integrate technology into instruction tailored to students with diverse learning needs.
Model effective use of assistive and instructional technologies in inclusive and self-contained classrooms.
Professional Development & Training
Design and deliver professional development sessions for teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff on using instructional and assistive technologies.
Provide ongoing coaching and support through one-on-one mentoring, small group sessions, and in-class demonstrations.
Train staff on compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, UDL).
Technology Integration & Implementation
Identify, evaluate, recommend and purchase technology tools, platforms, and applications that support special education goals and IEP accommodations.
Support the implementation of district-approved digital tools, learning management systems, and adaptive software.
Ensure alignment of technology use with curriculum standards and IEP goals.
Student-Centered Support
Assist in the selection and customization of assistive technology for individual students based on their IEPs.
Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., SLPs, OTs, AT specialists) to support technology-based interventions.
Monitor and assess the impact of technology on student performance and make data-driven recommendations
Collaboration & Communication
Serve as a liaison between special education, general education, IT staff, and administration to ensure smooth integration of technology.
Participate in IEP meetings when needed to provide input on technology accommodations and tools.
Maintain clear documentation and communication regarding tech implementation and student progress.
Work with the Director of Assessment and Accountability to ensure all State Assessment Accommodations are implemented accurately for students with disabilities
Evaluation and Troubleshooting
Support troubleshooting and maintenance of instructional technology tools used in special education settings.
Evaluate the effectiveness of technology tools and strategies through observation, teacher feedback, and student data.
Stay current on trends, research, and best practices in special education and educational technology Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in a special education setting
Demonstrated experience integrating technology into classroom instruction. Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Special Education, or a closely related field.
Certification in Instructional Technology, Assistive Technology, or relevant endorsements.
Experience coaching or providing professional development to educators.
Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL), WCAG accessibility guidelines, and IEP compliance.
Experience with a variety of digital tools and platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, LMS platforms, AAC tools, screen readers, text-to-speech software). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of assistive technology tools and their application in special education.
Deep understanding of instructional design principles and how to adapt them for diverse learners.
Ability to differentiate instruction and support a variety of learning styles and disabilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, IT staff, and families.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities with educational technology tools.
Capacity to collect and analyze data to inform instruction and technology integration strategies.

Compensation:
Per the negotiated contract between McLean County Unit 5 and the United Five Education Association, for the 2025-2026 school year the starting salary range for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree is $41,804- $51,669 and is based on Education and Certified Teaching experience. For candidates with a Master's Degree, the range is $46,820-$60,197 and is based on Education and Certified Teaching experience.
