Position Information Department/College Development Position Title Museum Curator, Part-time, up to 25 hours Job Category Staff Posting Number 00509 FLSA Non-Exempt Full or Part Time Part-Time Other Temporary No If Temporary, number of months Position Summary Information Duties JOB SUMMARY: The Museum Curator is responsible for planning and directing museum programs, as well as the care and storage of objects in campus museums.

The Curator will manage inventories, arrange displays, catalogue new collections, oversee conservation and display of permanent and loaned collections in order to ensure that the museums are properly staffed and collections displayed as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Responsible for organizing and maintaining records of acquisition, accession, appraisals, conservation, incoming/outgoing loans, rights and reproduction requests, condition, and inventory of all objects in the Athens State University permanent collection; responsible for overseeing the movement, packing, and shipping of objects to conform to insurance regulations * Responsible for the storage, exhibition, and loan locations of all objects in the Athens State permanent collection * Register and assign accession numbers to all objects in the collection, according to the established museum registration system.

Compose concise descriptions of objects, record descriptions in the collection database, and add research to object files * Maintain records of the collection via a computerized database system.

Periodically review and evaluate the registration and catalog system to maintain applicability, consistency, and operation * Maintain a database of digital images of the collection * Process purchase requisitions, requests for payment, and check requests related to museum operations * Supervise all installations and de-installations of both loan and permanent collections and all of the personnel involved in those activities * Determine storage conditions and level of care for objects in the museum's collection * Respond to requests from the campus community and off-campus individuals and organizations to view the museum's collections * Work with the grants office on grant proposals and pursue external funding sources * Recruit, interview, and hire staff and manage volunteers * Work with University Advancement to solicit and appraise gifts * Collaborate with other institutions and related entities * Complete other duties as assigned Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: * Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution * Strong computer skills, including hardware and software * Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in museum operations * Excellent project management and organizational skills * Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal) * Strong organization and multi-tasking skills OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS: Preferred: * Degree preferably in art history or museum studies * Knowledge of American Alliance of Museums (AAM) standard museum principles, practices, and procedures for collections management, and knowledge of research tools and methodologies * Knowledge of fundraising for cultural projects * Good teamworking skills * Experience supervising student workers or volunteers WORK CONDITIONS: * Ability to ascend and/or descend a ladder as needed * Ability to remain in a stationary position, such as sitting and/or standing, for prolonged periods of time * Ability to move from one worksite to another * Ability to operate a motor vehicle as needed * Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds * Ability to communicate information and ideas on a frequent basis * Frequently tasked with repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, such as operating a computer and other office productivity machinery * Ability to observe details 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more Salary Schedule Salary Band: P745 To view salary schedules visit: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
