The School of Theology of the University of the South, a seminary of the Episcopal Church, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Homiletics, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 2026.

The successful candidate will be a gifted preacher and teacher, able to teach students at the master's and doctoral levels to be faithful biblical preachers in the Anglican tradition within the liturgical context of the Book of Common Prayer (1979). They will teach core and elective classes to M.Div students preparing for ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church, teaching essential skills in public speaking and the effective communication of the gospel message by students with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.

They will also teach classes in homiletics to master's and doctoral students in the School of Theology's Advanced Degree Program, and they will advise doctoral theses in homiletics.

They will generally teach two classes a term and teach doctoral students regularly in the Advanced Degree Program in June.

Under the leadership of the successful candidate, through the combination of coursework and chapel life, students will be given a basic working knowledge of the lectionary, the rhythms of the liturgical year, and how to preach effectively in a variety of different contexts within the Episcopal Church.

Position Appointment Details: * School of Theology Faculty * Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track The mission of the School of Theology is to form clergy and lay leaders for service in the Episcopal Church.

In addition to their teaching duties, faculty support the institution's mission through advising students in their academic and vocational formation, engaging in scholarly research and publication, participating fully in chapel life, and working collaboratively with the School's various constituencies.

The Assistant Professor of Homiletics will interact regularly with the liturgy and church music faculty at the Chapel of the Apostles.

Faculty reviews will follow the University of the South's policies for tenure and promotion, with peer-reviewed publication the most traditional and accepted path toward tenure.

The strongest candidates will hold a terminal degree in homiletics or a relevant field, while the ability to teach in a secondary field, such as biblical studies or Christian education, is highly desirable.

Ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church and experience preaching in its liturgy are required.

Advanced doctoral students will be considered.

Experience in parish ministry is highly desirable.

Salary will be determined based on credentials.
