Description:

Independent of supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis and inducing and monitoring anesthesia. Provide technical support to the Anesthesia, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurology, Operating Rooms, Dentistry and Oral Surgery, and Soft Tissue Surgery services, on a rotation, based on service needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to anesthesia induction, anesthesia monitoring, surgical preparation for various procedures, training of various technical skills to students or residents, patient treatments, diagnostic sample collection and performing technical skills such as IV catheter placement, blood draws, urinary catheter placement.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

Must possess a current California Veterinary Technician license.

No Minimum Education required.

Experience communicating orally and in writing with a diverse group of people.

Experience in prioritizing and organizing workload without direct supervision.

Experience sedating, inducing, and monitoring anesthesia in critically ill patient.

Experience in aseptic technique and circulation in an O.R.

Experience to recognize normal and abnormal parameters for patients and how to respond accordingly.

Oral, written and interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of people, including veterinary students, clients, clinicians and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the use of various specialized surgical and diagnostic equipment.

Experience placing and maintaining various types of catheters including urinary and arterial.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work Environment
