Tech Lead Manager - TikTok Privacy Product

Responsibilities

The TikTok Privacy Transparency and Teen Kids Experience (TKE) teams are instrumental in developing regulatory-compliant, user-focused privacy and experience solutions for TikTok. Our mission is to foster responsible digital citizenship among young users by delivering age-appropriate, meaningful experiences, while empowering all users and stakeholders with clear insights, robust personalization controls, and transparent tools to ensure a safe, compliant, and positive TikTok environment. We are seeking a Tech Lead Manager to lead our engineering team at Privacy Transparency or Teen Kids Experience. In this role, you will: Responsibilities: - Lead, mentor, and grow a team of skilled engineers (full-stack, front-end, and back-end) building consumer-facing products - Collaborate with Product, Research, Data Scientist, and Infrastructure teams to shape and execute the roadmap for privacy, transparency, and TKE initiatives. - Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and strategy for user-facing privacy, transparency, and wellbeing features. - Manage resources and budgets to optimize performance and achieve business and compliance objectives. - Ensure timely delivery of high-quality, compliant features and improvements, balancing legal, user experience, and brand perception goals. - Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory, PR, and policy teams. - Continuously improve system quality, efficiency, security, and scalability, with a focus on proactive compliance and infrastructure. - Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and responsible digital citizenship within the team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: - Hands-on software development background with deep understanding of complex backend systems. - Proven experience building, designing, and scaling user-facing product architectures. - 2+ years of experience managing or technically leading a software engineering team. - Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing technical and regulatory challenges. - Demonstrated ability to drive collaboration across cross-functional teams to deliver shared goals. - Excellent communication and teamwork skills. - Strong product sense, with experience driving user-facing products/features from 0 to 1. Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science or related field, with 5+ years of industry experience in privacy engineering, security engineering, or implementing privacy/compliance features. - Experience building user-facing privacy, compliance, or digital wellbeing products, personalization control and transparency - Familiarity with global privacy regulations (e.g., EU DSA, COPPA, GDPR) and accessibility standards.

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $208800 - $438000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
