Chassis Mechanic Summary: The Chassis Mechanic will be responsible to perform gate / estimate inspections and mechanical repairs in a depot type environment.
The employee will be responsible to perform all types of chassis repairs including specifically brake jobs, welding, cutting with a torch and the use of standard repair tools to repair and/or replace chassis parts.
The operator is expected to be knowledgeable of, and observe, all safety rules and TRAC policies and procedures Chassis Mechanic Responsibilities: * Daily review of safety rules * Safe handling of chassis and other items engaged with the lift device * Working knowledge chassis mechanics, usage and customary repair methods * Communicating with management on space requirements, backlog of work, and inventory issues * Perform live chassis inspections in and out gate with an EIR or handheld device * Chassis inspections and writing repair estimates to TRAC repair criteria.
* Container chassis repairs of various and all types.
Chassis Mechanic Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED preferred * Experience in operating lift devices and yard trucks * Ability to get certified for operating forklift type equipment * Ability to read and write legibly * Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time * Ability to review a written plan and execute according to the stated standards * Ability to work within a process oriented team atmosphere * Ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team oriented work environment * Ability to meet deadlines; prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks * Knowledge of AAR, IICL and DOT rules and criteria * Must have experience and good welding skills * Must meet minimum FMCSA requirements that are listed in the Special Position Requirements Chassis Mechanic Special Position Requirements: * This position may require periodic support of other local TRAC M&R activities * Must have tool box and hand tools for container chassis repairs FMCSA Inspection Requirements: * Understand FMCSA container chassis inspection criteria and be able to identify defective components; * Be knowledgeable of methods, procedures, tools and equipment used when performing an FMCSA chassis inspection; * Be capable of performing an FMCSA chassis inspection by reason of experience, training, or both.
Mechanical FMCSA Brake Criteria: * Understand the container chassis brake service or inspection task and can perform that task; * Be knowledgeable of methods, procedures, tools and equipment used when performing a chassis brake service or inspection; * Be capable of performing an FMCSA chassis brake inspection by reason of experience, training, or both.
