Position Type: Athletics/Wrestling, Assistant Coach, High School Date Posted: 8/7/2025 Location: New London High School Multi Magnet Campus Additional Information: Show/Hide CLOSING DATE: Until Filled POSITION OVERVIEW: New London High School Athletics Department is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated High School Wrestling Assistant Coach to lead our program.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for the sport and a commitment to fostering the athletic and personal development of student-athletes.

The coach will be responsible for planning and executing practices, organizing competitions, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Program Management: Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for the wrestling team, including daily practices, conditioning, and skill development.

* Team Development: Coach and mentor student-athletes, focusing on both individual and team skills.

Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive attitude.

* Competition Preparation: Prepare the team for games and tournaments, including strategic planning, match preparation, and in-game coaching.

* Recruitment and Retention: Work with school administration to recruit and retain student-athletes for the program.

* Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with athletes, parents, and school administration.

Provide regular updates on team progress, schedule changes, and other relevant information.

* Compliance: Ensure compliance with school policies, league regulations, and safety protocols.

Keep accurate records of practices, matches, and player performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Certification: Must hold a valid State of Connecticut Coaching Certification.

First Aid, CPR, and Concussion Certification are required.

* Experience: Previous coaching experience in wrestling, preferably at the high school or collegiate level, is highly desirable.

* Skills: Strong knowledge of techniques, strategies, and rules.

Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and develop players.

* Personal Attributes: Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for performing the responsibilities of the position.

Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.

* Additional Requirements: Must pass a background check and meet any additional requirements set by the school or district.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: * This is a part-time, seasonal position typically involving after-school hours and weekends for practices and gamess.

* Must be able to work in various weather conditions and maintain a flexible schedule.
