Position Title: Assistant Football Coach
Reports To: Building Principal/Athletic Director
Location: Southfield A&T High School
Start Date/End Date: August 2025-October 2025 (2025-2026 School Year - FALL ATHLETICS)
Salary: $2,700.00 Stipend per the SEA CBA (paid at the end of the season based on the payment calendar)
Position Summary:
The Assistant Football Coach is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the high school football program. This includes coaching student-athletes, developing game strategies, organizing practices, ensuring academic accountability, and fostering leadership, discipline, and sportsmanship. The coach must demonstrate a strong commitment to student development and uphold the school's values both on and off the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement practice plans, game strategies, and conditioning programs.
Teach fundamental football techniques and advanced skills to student athletes.
Promote academic success and character development among team members.
Supervise assistant coaches and delegate responsibilities as appropriate.
Monitor and maintain inventory of equipment and uniforms.
Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling games, travel, and budget needs.
Ensure compliance with school, district, league, and state athletic regulations.
Maintain open communication with players, parents, school staff, and the community.
Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.
Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
Organize and participate in team fundraising, community outreach, and promotional events.
Evaluate player performance and provide regular feedback and support for improvement.
Enforce discipline and team rules consistently and fairly.
Oversee offseason conditioning and training programs.
Qualifications:
Prior coaching experience at the high school level or higher (head coaching experience preferred).
In-depth knowledge of football rules, strategies, and safety practices.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate skills and drills.
Ability to motivate and mentor student athletes.
Bachelor's degree in education, Sports Management, or related field preferred.
