Entity: Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital Department: Laboratory Work Hours: 1400-2230 Weekend Requirements: Every Other 1.0 FTE

Job Summary:

Leads and coordinates workflow and staff assignments for medical laboratory technicians and team members performing clinical laboratory tests according to established procedures of verification, processing, testing, and reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

Acts in a lead capacity in performing quality control procedures to validate test results according to established standards and records results appropriately.

Coordinates daily workflow, assignments and staffing of the laboratory function and area.

Provides guidance, training and supervision for medical laboratory technicians.

Coordinates and provide feedback to department leadership on quality and performance measures on team members.

Coordinates delivery of physicians reports via phone and electronic distribution in a timely manner.

Monitors and may provide expertise on responses to ''technical question'' calls from units and physicians.

Coordinates preventive maintenance and monitoring of all equipment to ensure that it is working properly and maintains related records.

Ensures appropriate and accurate recording on instrument logs of all repairs, replacement, and maintenance equipment.

Maintains adequate supply inventories by rotating stock, checking for expiration dates, and ordering replacement stock.

Provides guidance and may assist team members performing venipuncture on patients of all age groups and other specimen collection using proper therapeutic skills according to procedures.

Assists supervisors in additional duties which support the lab's quality program.

Provides guidance, teaching and education to students and other personnel population.

Serves as a point of contact for departmental concerns.

Works closely with other healthcare workers to resolve issues and interpret patient lab results within the framework of medical technology.

Recognize testing inconsistency and takes appropriate corrective action.

Applies more advanced skills and knowledge in the area of specialization.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required

Education

Associate's degree or higher in Science required upon hire OR

Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire

Additional Education Information

A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

MT - Certified as a Medical Technologist through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR

MT - Certified as a Medical Technologist through American Medical Technologists (AMT) required upon hire OR

MLS - Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire AND

MLT - Certified Medical Laboratory Technician through American Medical Technologists (AMT) required upon hire OR

SBB - Certified as a Specialist in Blood Banking through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR

SC - Certified as a Specialist in Chemistry through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR

SCYM - Certified as a Specialist in Cytometry through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR

SH - Certified as a Specialist in Hematology through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR

SM - Certified as a Specialist in Microbiology through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR

SMB - Certified as a Specialist in Molecular Biology through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire
