Reports To: Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction FLSA Status: Exempt Salary Scale: Instructional Coordinator Salary Scale Location: Complex Job Summary: The Coordinator of School Counselors and Behavioral Services will provide leadership, guidance, and professional development to school counselors and behavioral interventionists across the district.
This role ensures the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling and behavioral intervention program that supports student academic success, career readiness, and social-emotional development.
The coordinator collaborates with school administrators, district personnel, and community stakeholders to enhance counseling services that align with district goals and state regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide oversight and coordination of the district's comprehensive school counseling program that is based on data-informed decision-making.
* Work collaboratively with the career and technical administrator to align career connection exploration activities and experiences for students to the strategic goals of the division and state * Facilitate and coordinate academic career plans for students as directed by the Virginia Department of Education * Provide oversight and coordination of the district's behavior intervention services.
* Develop and implement policies and best practices for school counselors to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
* Serve as a liaison between school counselors, administrators, and central office leadership to improve student support services.
* Facilitate professional development opportunities for school counselors to stay updated on best practices and new regulations.
* Support school counselors in implementing and maintaining efforts to help students focus on academic, career, and social/emotional development.
* Plan and facilitate FAFSA sessions to support students and families in the financial aid process.
* Monitor and analyze data related to student outcomes, intervention effectiveness, and counseling program impact.
* Assist with crisis response planning and intervention strategies for schools in collaboration with district and community resources.
* Review and provide guidance on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and student support teams as needed.
* Ensure school counseling services align with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and state requirements.
* Develop a resource guide to support counselors with community resources, ensuring they have access to available local services for students and families.
* Develop partnerships with community organizations, post-secondary institutions, and career development programs to expand student opportunities.
* Attend state-level meetings to stay informed on legislative updates, trends, and best practices affecting school counseling programs.
* Assist with hiring, onboarding, and evaluating school counselors in collaboration with school principals.
* Provide direct support and consultation to school counselors regarding complex student cases.
* Support the implementation of programs addressing mental health, social-emotional learning (SEL), and behavioral interventions.
* Stay informed on legislative updates and changes affecting school counseling programs.
* Prioritize mental health needs of our students and staff by working closely with school administration to ensure wellness and social-emotional learning strategies are made available.
* Assist in organizing graduation diploma seals and items Qualifications and Requirements: * Master's degree in School Counseling, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
* Valid Virginia School Counselor License (or eligibility for certification). * Minimum of five years of experience as a school counselor, with leadership or coordination experience preferred.
* Strong knowledge of ASCA National Model, state counseling standards, and student services programs.
* Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing equity-focused initiatives.
* Experience working at the High School Level building and implementing master schedules is required.
* Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to analyze data to inform program improvements.
* Proficiency in using technology and student management systems for data tracking and reporting.
Work Environment & Physical Demands: * Travel to schools and community partner sites may be required.
* Occasional evening or weekend meetings may be necessary for professional development or community engagement.
