Job Summary
DEFINITION:
Under supervision of one or more teachers, infant/preschool assistants independently perform a variety of instructional activities; assist in the training and learning activities of infants and preschool children with special learning needs; provide for the personal and medical needs of students; perform a variety of routine clerical and supportive activities for instructional personnel; and perform other related work as required.
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
• Valid California driver's license
• Possess or able to attain High Quality status as per No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• AA degree, or 48 college hours or units, or pass test of math, language arts and ability to assist per NCLB regulations
• Any combination of successful qualifying experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and skills. A typical way to meet this requirement would be one year paid or volunteer experience working with infants and children of various ages in a learning environment
• Training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, instructional technology, or a closely related field is preferred
• Bilingual in English and Spanish desired
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Required
• Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar
• Basic mathematical concepts
• Basic concepts of child growth and development
Desired
• Behavior management strategies and techniques for students with atypical behavior
• Routine record storage, retrieval, and management procedures
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
Ability to:
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults
• Function as a productive team member and interact positively with staff members and parents
• Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to students and their families
• Respect and show appropriate consideration for age, gend
