Duties & Responsibilities:
Carry out Product Development Requests approved by management
Reformulate HTV/LIMS products in order to meet/optimize performance based on requirements/specifications with managerial oversight
Learn how to execute Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology and statistical software to optimize product performance and troubleshoot issues with a product
Safely operate all equipment in the Technical Service & Development (TS&D) lab, including but not limited to: Flacktek speed mixers, double planetary mixers, banbury mixer, dough mixer, Moriyama mixer, 2 roll mill, 3 roll mill, extruder, heated press., etc.
Maintain lab inventory on a weekly basis
Collaborate with production and process engineer(s) to learn about processing of gums, HCR, LIMS
Support Production product failures in providing product repairs/troubleshooting
Conduct physical testing using tensometer, durometer, rheometers, viscometers, and other pieces of analytical equipment
Author Technical Reports and Memos
Perform other duties as assigned by manager
Education & Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry strongly preferred, other science/engineering related degrees will be considered
Experience in polymer chemistry and/or formulation chemistry preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Scientific summarizing/presentation skills (experimental results)
Strong mathematical skills and ability to problem solve and think creatively
Strong computer literacy
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skill
Must be able to work independently and in teams
Ability to work effectively with other groups within the organization
Willingness to take direction and carry out instructions from managers in an efficient manner
Foster a productive and functional work environment
Work Environment:
This position operates in a laboratory setting, pilot/production plant, and professional office environment.
The role routinely uses the following tools and equipment: Double Planetary Mixers, Speed Mixers, tensometer, durometer, rheometers, viscometers, banbury mixer, dough mixer, Moriyama mixer, 2 roll mill, 3 roll mill, extruder, heated press, etc.
Physical Demands:
Stands or walks 4hrs/day or more
Works near or with mechanical equipment
Sitting for extended periods of time relating to desk work, including, but not limited to computer, lab book documentation, research, etc.
Handles hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals: organic solvents, silicones, silanes, catalysts, powders, volatile fluids, acids/bases, nitrogen gas, etc.
