Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean and the Program Chair, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for instructing students in various speech courses, including but not limited to Fundamentals of Human Communication, Public Speaking, and Business and Professional Communication.

The Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for creating course content-related materials, while also adhering to college policies and practices, as well as course-related objectives, Student Learning Outcomes, and General Education Learning Outcomes; utilizing various teaching strategies - including Engaged/ Active Learning practices; monitoring and evaluating student progress; maintaining accurate student records using the Canvas grade book; communicating with students regularly; etc.

This position requires the instructor to teach on-site at our 3 campus locations, off-site at area high schools for dual-credit, and/or at our area Learning Centers, which will likely require the use of Zoom or Lifesize technology to remote to other locations.

This is a part-time temporary position.

Marginal Functions * May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.

Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College.

Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification.

Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.

* Ability to use basic computer skills.

* Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.

* The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications * Master's Degree in Speech Communication or Communication Studies, or in a related program or field of study with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Speech Communication or Communication Studies.

* Teaching experience equivalent to at least 18 semester hours, or 6 courses/sections, at secondary or post-secondary level that applies directly to area(s) of instructional responsibility (Speech courses). Desired Qualifications * Familiarity with Engaged/Active Learning practices.

* Experience using both Canvas and Zoom.

* Experience teaching high school dual credit classes.

* Graduate coursework directly related to courses that will be taught.
